NYC - Investment Banking - advice - Recruitment

All,

I am going into my 4th year and recruitment starts this September for me. WIth that being said, I am not too sure I have a strong chance in getting into a firm in NYC due to a) non-target school, b) Canadian c) uncertainty in the economy/wallstreet.

Would like to hear your thoughts with regards to my chances in getting into BB or boutique firms in NYC for Investment Banking/ECM/DCM and any advice you might offer as to what I can do to better position myself going forward.

School: Non target - Canadian (assuming that only Queens and Ivey is a target)
GPA: 4.3/4.33
Rank: top 1%
Work Experience:
- Private Equity Summer Analyst
- Investment Banking Summery Analyst M&A (one of the big 4 Canadian bank)
- S&T Summery Analyst - Fixed Income(big 4 Canadian bank)
- Marketing Intern (big 4 Canadian bank in their Wealth Management)

Extra Currics:
- President of school case club
- VP of school finance club
- school waterpolo team
- case competitions, sports intramurals, mentorship program, and organized charity events.

Feedback would be great.

Dubsfan7:
Impressive resume, assuming you can find some alums (or anyone else you can in contact with) on the street who you can talk to, you should be able to get some interviews. From there it is all you. Good luck.

Thank you for the feedback. But same as I mentioned to Oldmansachs, what if I can't connect with any alumni? Would submitting it through the online database still work?

Thank you

You seem to have been all over the place. I don't think being Canadian will make a difference with your experience. Regarding the market, it might be tougher than before, but you have a good shot. Good luck!

Don't really want to disclose which Canadian Bank I worked for, but where I want to start, I would love to start in either NYC or London in the Lev Fin/DCM side being the first choice.

Dude, when you have got a GPA score of 4.3, you have first choice. Your career steps are quite good.

Okay you want to work at a product group, Leveraged Finance is good for you to start.

At DCM you´re only putting debt in the market, its boring.

Yeah ut 4.3/4.33 at a non-target canadian university doesn't match up againt ivey leagues right? I mean, the BB banks don't even recruit from our school at all.... except the Calgary divisions...

This a prejudice...

When they´re not searching for you, search for them ! Thats the way. With a 4.3 GPA you´ll have no problems, Im sure.
