Very difficult job choice. Help?!
Thoughts on these two jobs? Best career potential? Thank you! Would also help if you mentioned your own experience.
1) Credit Risk Analyst at a BB:
Basically, job duties are as follows: - Assess and monitor the creditworthiness of the firm’s trading counterparts and borrowers (e.g. banks, industrials, municipalities). - A lot of digging through companies' financial statements. Write regular reports on the companies that the bank has credit risk to within an industry. Also write reports for bond offerings on ad/hoc basis. - Essentially the job is to ensure that the bank feels comfortable with its level of exposure. Protect the firm's capital. Minimize losses from counterparties defaulting. - Determine acceptable levels of credit exposure
2) Cash Management Analyst at a diversified holding company (think Berkshire Hathaway, but much smaller):
Basically, job duties are as follows: - Assist in management of $1-2B in short term investments (fluctuates based on acquisitions). - Analyze potential investments in the credit and equity markets. - Report on current holdings. - Model transactions and investments in Excel. - Draft presentations, investment summaries, and correspondence for company executives.
You just have to ask yourself one thing, which job do you see yourself doing 5 years from now? But you also have to evaluate which of these jobs best matches your skills.
This is good advice, I agree. Good luck :)
for me personally, 2 sounds way more interesting, but as previously said, depends on what you want to do/are good at
Job nr 2.
">BB
, which is more of a reporting MO role rather than FO role. Do talk to the group at #2 to see whether you can really get significant modeling experience as well as involve in corporate development (i.e. Draft presentations, investment summaries, and correspondence for company executives). The job title of #2 and the responsibilities don't seem to match up to me.
These appear to be very sexy job descriptions for not-very-sexy job titles. I would take number 2, but I have been fooled by HR's flowery description. Reach out to people in the department or at least in the company, and see how excited they are about their career . The worst feeling is walking in the first day and realizing that everyone hate's their job or is trying to leave (this has happened).
