West Coast banking/consulting job opportunities? Also, newbie questions

Hello,

I am going to be attend USC (transferring from a tiny LAC in new england). I am thinking about majoring in business but have not been admitted to the b-school and likely wont be due to transfer of credits etc. I was wondering if studying public relations at USC's annenberg school along with two minors (management consulting, business) would help me possibly get a job in consulting?

Also, how different is the west coast banking/consulting scene than wall st? I went to a NYC prep school but was lazy and never interested in banking until now....

I just found this resource and I apoligize if these questions are on the wrong forum.

Thanks !

There's plenty of resources that provide more detail. managementconsulted.com is a good resource to get started. You should pick a major that interests you. I assume that at USC unless you're in the business school, no major will be much different from the rest in terms of career prospects.

The West Coast scene can be very different from the East Coast - I've never been on the East Coast, so I can't talk much, but the corporate finance people at Amazon wear jeans to work. I think that alone shows that in some circumstances, the cultures can be very different.

I don't know any Annenberg people who got jobs at good (or even decent) consulting or banking firms. Everybody I know who broke into banking / consulting out of USC was either a Business major or an Accounting major. Also, you will need at least a 3.5 cumulative GPA to be looked at by most firms in LA. For the most part, east coast offices do not hire out of USC either.

USCbrojanwhat sort of jobs did annenberg kids get usually? isnt public relations a decent major for consulting?

Um, not if you want to be a management consultant. Try Econ, Business, Engineering, hard sciences, or maybe public policy/poli sci + a business minor

I was actually admitted in dorsife...getting into b-school is tricky at this point.

Would a major like poli science or internatinal relations and TWO minors in the b school ( business+management consulting) give me any chance at decent firms? im talking like small, non wall st firms in LA
