3 weeks of in January: where to go

Hi

i have 3 weeks off in January between jobs and want to travel somewhere my girlfriend (both early 20s). Ideally we would like to go somewhere/do a trip that is hard/impossible to do while working (maybe something where you lose connection for days on end etc). A mix of activities would be ideal (beach/relaxing, adventurous activities etc). Some ideas we’re looking at, although nothing is screaming out:

-backpacking some combo of Philippines/Vietnam/Cambodia/laos (already did Thailand and loved it)

-trekking in Nepal + 1 week in Maldives to relax

-self driven South Africa trip

to give an idea what we’re after, Madagascar or Borneo would be perfect but both are in rainy season in January. Any ideas/reccomendations would be very appreciated. Budget would be around $5-$7.5k for 2 people, flying from Europe.

Hey,

if you do SEA I’d recommend sticking to one country for backpacking, you will get a lot of depth from your trip and I’ve often found these to be the most enjoyable. My top recommendation is Laos by a country mile, least touristic of all countries in the region bar Myanmar (which I would not approach, though more for ethical reasons).

if you want something very different, Jordan is stunning and completely empty these days due to the ME conflicts, but 3 weeks there might be stretching it a bit. Could combine with smth in North Africa/ ME to cover 3 weeks

Also, if you want to do Africa, heard Ghana might offer the kind of mix you were looking for, it’s also travelable vs others in the region not doing so great rn. For Latin America Idk much so I’ll let others underline options, have just heard repeatedly that Peru is a gem and great for a trip to do when young.

Also for SEA didn’t say it before but Indonesia can be fantastic
