I always hear about how fucked the U.S. legal system is, but I can't think of many countries with less fucked ones. Law is kinda fucked, dudes.

Personally, I would have had this kid shot. With that said, lets step back and look at this.
1) He was a minor.
2) He had an accident while driving drunk. Obviously he broke the law, but there was no intent to kill or harm someone.
3) Sentences range from O-20 years or more for adults who kill someone while drunk.
So this kid, a minor, drove drunk and killed someone and got hit with a severe probation. People who are adults sometimes get no jail time. Yeah, his defense was bullshit, but lets realize that he got a light sentence because of his age and there was no intent to harm anyone.
He killed FOUR people.
Clearly, everyone involved in this is also suffering from 'stupidity'
You'd have him shot? So your argument is that one should be punished based on the consequences of one's actions and not on his intent?
There are punitive and compensatory consequences. Punitive ones punish and serve as incentive to not commit a crime. Compensatory ones seek to make the wronged party whole again. Obviously, this isn't always entirely possible and monetary reward is the closest we can come some times.
Should the kid's punishment be different had he killed but one person? What about if he hadn't hurt anyone but just hit a mailbox? His intent was the same. I've driven drunk. Never hit anyone, but I could have. Am I any better than this kid in your eyes?
I'd have him shot because I am a dick and support capital punishment for a variety of reasons. Billions of people on this planet, one less isn't going to make a difference.
Regardless, your post was gibberish. What the hell are you even talking about. I simply said that within our legal system the fact that he is a minor and killed these people while driving drunk (thereby having no intent) is what determined his lenient sentence.
