Anyone ever Hired a Fashion Consultant?

I’m a guy. I dress in pretty generic clothes when I go out but I HATE shopping for new clothes. Finding something that A) Fits B) I like enough to wear confidently C) is in Stock / in the right color etc takes so much time per article of clothing.

I want to hire someone to take my measurements, take stock of what I have / how I normally dress and build or buy me 5-10 outfits. I’ve found some “fashion consultants” online that charge $75-$200 per hour but it’s not clear if they provide all the services I mentioned or if they just shop with you, etc.

Has anyone tried something like this? I don’t mind paying someone $500-$1000 to take all the pain out of shopping for clothes, I truly hate it

Have you ever tried a clothing subscription service like Stitch Fix? It’s a cheaper alternative to what you’re talking about; they’ll ask for your measurements and desired style and then have one of their fashion consultants pick things to send you. In my experience it’s pretty hit or miss, but a lot of people have had success with it.

It’s not solely the “style” aspect, but also removing the work of shopping. Having to tell the J crew guy 15 times that I don’t want to sign up for a fucking credit card... that alone I would pay $100 to skip.

The process of: Find something I like + finding the right size (I’m tall, thin with broad shoulders) takes serious time

Look into Nordstrom's personal shopping service. It's free, you tell them what you're looking for and show up to a full fitting room of clothes. If you know what you like, want them to put a few outfits together, and just don't want to dig through a store it could be helpful.

Only flaw is the styling can be very hit or miss depending on what salesperson you get.

don't worry about buying clothes that fit perfectly...when in doubt, but clothes that fit, but err on the slightly larger/baggy size (never too tight), and then take to your drycleaner who also works as a tailor...and just get your clothes hemmed / taken in/ altered as necessary.  This is not expensive...and allows you to transform mid priced clothes into expensive clothes for small $$

just google it...you're welcome

Worth a shot. If you are price insensitive, I've found that often going into smaller men's boutiques end up with the same effect - you'll have someone who will help you pick things out, get the fit right, tailor stuff, etc. You'll pay up for stuff - but probably end up with clothes that last a while that you won't have to think about every few years. It depends on where you live how nice these are but even in smaller cities there's always a few places that specialize in this.

I also like this route because if you live there and develop a relationship they can suggest stuff for you, order things, etc. Same with a tailor - find one you like, trust and keep them as long as you can.

Highly recommend Trunk Club. Basically, you sort of tell them what you like and what you own and a personal stylist contacts you with a potential “trunk” of clothes. They send that to you, you pick what you want to keep, and send the rest back. I think it’s free (just pay for what you keep), but I signed up years ago and I think they may have changed the pricing.

Any attractive female friends would do the trick. I would try Nordstrom tailor as well, given covid 19 I think there are restrictions on trying clothing out currently.

There are forums for dress codes and styles, such as RealMenStyle on YouTube and on his website. There are people who provide insight on shoes as well. It’s a good starting point and allowed you to build a wardrobe to start before expanding.
