Are any of y’all big into YouTube, and if so, what channels do you follow?
During the pandemic, I got into YouTube videos as I can watch them at 2x speed, and a lot of the content is solid. Below are some of my favorite channels:
ReportOfTheWeek
- fast food review
JomboyMedia
- sports
Ordinary Sausage
- makes sausage from literally anything
TheDooo
- Omegle guitar covers and funny gaming
Maxamili
- funny Omegle videos
Guga Foods
- cooking (primarily steak and meat)
penguinz0

Ross Creations
- public pranks

Slappers
- parodies of movies and modern living
BroScienceLife
- makes videos when Dom needs rent $$$
For those of you familiar with me, you know I’m also huge into military history. Below are some amazing channels:
Combat Story
- former CIA interviews DEVGRU/Delta
MedalOfHonorBook
- interviews MOH recipients
Memoirs of WWII
- interviews WWII veterans
Honest Trailers (by Screen Junkies)
- Hilarious real world takes on movie trailers
Phillip Defranco. One of the channels I really trust with news.
Jomboy, Mr. Beast, Vice News, Wendover Productions, Mustard to name a few.
Philly D is the goat. That is honestly the only news show I trust and watch - actually impartial.
Watched Philip Defranco for about 10 years up until he was misrepresenting the BLM riots, it was pretty sad to have to let him go.
Misrepresenting the BLM protests? How.
If they aren't hyperlinked it's because the comment function was being weird and trying to link to a vid that didn't exist.
Fitness/Wellbeing
Music channels
Political/Cultural Commentary
History
News
Science & Finance (with other random conversations sometimes mixed in)
Comedy
General Entertainment
Cannot recommend him highly enough. Great channel.
Tim pool is an all time grifter bro cmon now
I vehemently disagree. Can you back this up in any way? Provide any examples? Maybe you need to revisit what the meaning of a grifter is. If he wanted to grift he would pick one side and parrot all their talking points without straying in order to play to their lowest common denominator and heavily monetize with ads.
Why SCMP? They're no longer independent, they even interviewed a guy named Guo Minhai the CCP randomly kidnapped in Thailand where he "confessed" to a long string of crimes that were clearly tortured out of him. Fox or CNN would never do anything so vile.
It's always important to understand what narratives press that presents as "independent" but in reality is effectively guided by China is trying to lead with. Understanding their positions helps me understand what they think is important and guess what their decisions might be. I also follow China Uncensored who I suppose I should add to the list.
Fox and CNN both propagated complete lies to justify and defend the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, they are both more vile than what you just described by magnitudes. There is no news organization in the world with more blood on their hands than the corporate press in the US.
>The Critical Drinker (movie/tv reviews)
The Critical Drinker is criminally underrated!!
He is the very best at helping me avoid any crap pushing THE MESSAGE
Report of the week - Food review is amazing. Guy is just so far out there
I like watching my boy Bald & Bankrupt chase babushkas around places such as Turkmenistan and Chechnya.
Destiny for political commentary and Benjamin for funny finance related commentary
Had to come back and edit because I forgot my boy NDYakAngler. If you like fishing, this is by far my favorite channel for that... I find a lot of fishing youtubers can be annoyingly over the top excited catching mediocre fish - this guy has the calmest demeanor catching monsters. Please just watch this https://youtu.be/A1CYBSU3bZA?t=111
You just gave me a ton of new binge material. Gracias
I thought I was the only one watching those obscure channels. The Battle of Midway from Japanese POV, with Nagumo's Dilemma, was epic. I would have made the same calls as Nagumo ... and lost. All except the closing of the distance to the American battle group. That was dumb. But recovering the planes would have been my call too. So much of history was decided in a handful of minutes, and the fate of the Pacific Theatre, the course of the war, and likely the course of all of history was decided in a few fateful moments on a number of occasions.
You should check out Shattered Sword if you haven't read it already. Great book, seems to be the basis for Montemayor's videos. The author brings up some good points about Japanese mistakes (e.g. perhaps 2 carriers could have recovered aircraft while the other 2 launched a strike immediately).
Tangentially related (but maybe interesting for this board given finance focus) - I tried to quantify $ (or yen) impact of these sinkings. Reddit tells me Japanese aircraft carriers had a build cost of 40-80M yen. At the time, the Japanese GNP was roughly 20 billion yen. So if the total build cost of all 4 carriers was something like $200M yen, then value roughly equal to 1% of WWII Japan's GNP was destroyed in one day.
