At what point in your life/career should you hire a professional to file your taxes?

Genuinely curious - at what point in your life does hiring a professional tax advisor or tax preparation specialist make sense? Does it depend on your owned investment/asset classes, net worth, income, etc? I'm sure advisors would take most clients just to bill them fees, but I would assume the benefit isn't worth the cost for most people.

Ever since I started working, I've used a tax accountant to do my taxes. While the fee for it is usually around a $100 for me, the returns I've been getting are several hundred bucks. My most recent filing for 2020 returned me about $1700. I could do it on my own, since a lot of friends recommend it, but I just feel it's been so much easier and less worry about doing something wrong or missing out on a potential refund I could get.

Once I was out of school and working full time I went to a professional. While my returns were simple then, I felt confident that they were done correctly and the fee was worth the headache. I now have K1s, various accounts, mortgage, etc and with the constantly changing laws it is easier to have someone who cranks through 500+ returns a year do if for me.
