Books to blow some cash on
Monkeys, looking for build my library a bit, so that I´ll have an excuse not to study. My candidates as of now are:
>Vaclav Smil, Energy & Civilisation (a favourite of Bill Gates)
>Asimov, Foundation Trilogy
>Ashlee Vance, Elon Musk
>Schwanzmann, What it takes
What else could I read? Currently reading a lot of philosophy (Chesterton, Ernst Juenger, Marcus Aurelius), so something like that would be cool, or economic stuff. Money isn´t an issue.
Appreciated!
The Naked Ape + The Human Zoo by Desmond Morris
Behave by Robert Sapolsky
I’ve been reading more classic literature these last few months, books we read in high school but found boring are now actually really good. Great Expectations was a really good read, Grapes of Wraith (Steinbeck is good in general), Dubliners by James Joyce, etc. If you’ve been reading philosophy I’d look into Dostoevsky. Also Alexander Solzhenitsyn’s Gulag Archipelago, not exactly philosophy but is a very gut wrenching read and if your into learning more about the Russian Gulags and what life was like, I’d seriously recommend reading this.
I like to be fed grapes in my Wraith as well
Good catch lol, can’t say I disagree.
Working on The Gulag Archipelago now. Very gut gut wrenching indeed. The passage where Solzhenytsin says that the line between good and evil runs through everyone’s heart is truly profound.

Billion Dollar Whale, Prisoners of Geography, The Billionaire Raj, China’s Gilded Age: The Paradox of Economic Boom and Vast Corruption
I really enjoyed Prisons of Geo
I really liked The Alchemist & Narcissus and Goldmund. Reading crime and punishment now
I had high hopes for Crime and Punishment. I thought it was just ok, though the psychological aspect of it is pretty interesting. Thought more would happen I guess, seemed to drag in spots. Interested to hear what you think about it.
I'm only about 30 pages in... not sure if I want to commit. You think it's worth it?
Factfulness - I think it's a must read to get perspective on data on global development. And not too heavy either. Sapiens. Principles.
Edit - Vaclav Smil is v comprehensive but his books are heavy read (a bit textbook like). If more interested in the history of oil than energy in general, can try The Prize instead.
About to start The Rise of Modern Judicial Review. Long shot that anyone else would be interested in this LOL but I think it seems like it’ll be pretty eye opening to see just how much the scope of judicial review has evolved since Marbury v Madison
I enjoy historical fiction. I like the flashman series, funny but also well researched. Would recommend if you're looking for something lighter

Winners Take All - Anand Giridhadas
Thanks for pointing out that money isn’t an issue
OP stays balling hard out here
Agree on Alan watts
Antifragile, Fooled by randomness, skin in the game. All Taleb, all very good.
Already read Antifragile, Taleb is an absolute beast. A bit self-infatuated maybe, but great ideas.
The whole Incerto series is great + Skin in the Game.
Everything of the above minus the design book.
Edit: get them in hardcover if cash is flush
Gonna have to say buddy, the amount of chosenites on this list does not speak for it
Was thinking of reading some Caro, where should I start (if at all)?
I started with the robert moses book, took me nearly half a year lol, then the lbj books
If you are looking to "blow" money I'll suggest a few rare titles.
Ignition! - Clark Hardcover goes for about $80 used although a paperback was printed in the last few years dropping its price significantly.
Margin of Safety- Seth Klarman of the Baupost fund. Good luck finding a real copy for less than $1000.
Or buying the first edition of any very well renowned book in history such as Harry Potter or the Hobbit will cost a check.
Have Margin of Safety as scan, but yeah, impossible to find.
Les Miserables & business adventures.
