Covid Side effects
Finally got hit with Covid last week, it didn’t really affect me too badly as the actual sickness really only lasted two days.
The thing that I find really annoying about Covid is the damn side effects. I still cough like every hour (even though its been a week) but the worst side effect is the FATIGUE. I feel like I have 0 motivation (also probably because I’ve been stuck at home) but just a week off exercise and I feel like I’ve lost so much strength.
Eg. I used to be able to lift heavier prior to covid, do more reps, higher intensity, etc. now thats all gone even though mentally I keep telling myself I need to exercise more.
Anyone else experiencing the same thing as me? What about those who have had it worse? I’m 22 yrs old so legit in the lowest possible risk category. Also fully vaxxed for those who are curious
.
Had that experience last year when I was 27. My lifts aren't the biggest, but it was instantly noticeable. Even when taking twice the pre-workout I usually do I would find myself droozy (drowsy & woozy). It's a problem that resolves itself over time, but if you were on a mesocycle then you can basically scratch it because it won't be possible for you to do any sort of linear progression at the gym before you are closer to 2-3 weeks out.
I've had it three times now. Most recent time was the worst from an actual sickness perspective, but the after-effects linger a bit. I didn't really care about getting it - it's an endemic thing, it's just gonna be everywhere. Not really phased about getting myself sick, although I tried to limit contact in the days after I was 'cleared.' It's all a balance between not being a dick, and also not believing it's some horrific plague that'll kill everyone.
I'd say that it took me about a week-and-a-half after clearing my system to feel 100% normal again. After the first couple of days, I'd ballpark myself at like an 85-90% normality. The fatigue is still there though - worst part about the recent bout was the damn body pains... man. No matter how many warm showers I took, stretching, everything just hurt. Sleep was bad, every time I had to get up from my chair was bad, all of that. Fatigue definitely a role in that immediate period afterward, so I don't think it's anything to worry about. You're only a week out. You'll feel better next week.
Best of luck! Speedy recovery.
Reading this makes me feel slightly better lmao. Crazy to think that the worlds going thru something like this as if it’s normal
>Crazy to think that the worlds going thru something like this as if it's normal
This is how most people (especially older) handled the flu pre-2020... and the world didn't even notice... just sayin to get some perspective.
You've had covid 3 times?
Please don't have kids. Let this line of genes end with you. Please.
covid been around for 2 years. easy to catch it if you go out and take public transport.
This is common (long covid): https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/long-term-effects/index.html&…;
I know someone who has been coughing since as long as last September but is perfectly healthy...it affects everyone differently.
If i keep coughing for months on end i’ll go crazy
I caught it twice the first time was the delta variant in July 2021 and I was really sick for a little over two weeks. Had severe side effects for a little over a month and some long term affects until December. When I caught omicron it was like a cold. It seems like my immune system is much weaker in general since catching it and fatigue was the worst paired with brain fog.
Also if you have had mono before it could possibly raise your Epstein Barr levels so get blood work to check for that and take medicine for it if it’s too high.
Look up "long covid"
I got Covid a month ago and my lungs haven't recovered. I monitor my blood oxygen saturation levels and can see they are lacking.
Have you got any idea when you think you’ll be at 100%
No I have no idea. I feel fine for the most part - maybe a few more weeks.
got delta late fall 2021 and maybe have just gotten whatever the latest variant is last week. do not make the mistake I did with delta and work out hard, it'll only make things worse. sure, a little sweat is fine, but think more like yoga, pranayama, and sauna instead of power cleans and deadlifts. your body has limited resources, and it's trying to use them on fighting the disease, so if you use all/most on exercise, there's little left to fight covid and your recovery will be longer.
on coughing, if you've never done pranayamas or breathwork, I'd give it a try, zero downside.
on fatigue, focus on sleep quality and be patient. probably 1-2 weeks after being done with delta I was back to my old self, just takes time.
I currently work in the health industry - long covid is real. This is a good process in terms of getting your health back online.
How long did you have it and how long before you started lifting?
I think I had it a week and a half and I was lifting throughout as well as some two and three a days thrown in there (running/swimming/boxing) my advice is to take it easy instead of trying to sweat it out (like me), you should recover faster
Just sharing my experience. Unvaxxed and only got it once (the OG strand in Dec 2020).
I take daily vitamin D, Tumeric, multi-vitamin supplements, and a daily harvest shake. I partially credit these for having a limited reaction and not getting get it again despite traveling a ton etc.
I recommend the whoop to anyone with covid concerns or high stressed jobs. Monitoring your sleep is a great way to check if you are actually sick or running behind on sleep. Their breathing calculations, effectively caught me getting covid. Plus having a baseline of their measurements is a good way to check on long-covid issues if any.
I ate a ton of Indian food with I lost my taste.. that seemed to help jumpstart my senses and got full taste back in~10 days. Also, the holy trinity for any sickness tons of water, cold showers, and steam rooms. best of luck
Great stuff on the supplements. No doubt played a role
curious why not vaxxed? No judgment, just curious
I saw no point in getting it after already getting Covid. To me, if you beat once you're going to beat again / more risk with adverse vac reaction + had some medical history that validated not getting without getting into the weeds.
Given how many people gotten delta / other variants with the vaccine, I feel like I was definitely vindicated not getting it. Also, after reading Empire of Pain it made me less trustworthy of FDA suggestions etc.
I had no idea Whoop had these features. Always read about them passingly but questioned how helpful they can be. Recently had a weird post-nasal drip/acid reflux episode (tested neg for COVID twice to make sure, fully vaxxed) that started while I was on a trip. Had minor symptoms early on and had trouble sleeping but then felt fine for 2 days after before I got hit hard by symptoms that lasted 2 weeks. With Whoop, I probably could have treated the symptoms right from the start.
Yeah the features are pretty nifty. I noticed I'm prioritizing fitness more as it's a built-in reminder to avoid bad habits etc. Let me get referral if you take the plunge
you should be alright. I had cough for about a month but it eventually went away. and I had fatigue for like a week but went away as well.
Got it at the beginning of May for the first time. 5 days of a low grade fever. I lifted the first day not thinking anything of it. Felt like terrible after and didn’t do much. Took a test after I felt better on day 6/7 and it said I was positive.
Worst thing for me is that it aggravated something and the eczema I had as a kid has come back. Went on a 10 day prednisone taper, itch/red skin went away, but came back right after. Can’t get in to a dermatologist till august. Weird virus.
How long before you felt functional enough to resume daily activities like hard excercise?
I golfed 3 days in running a fever in 90° heat. Wasn’t smart but I’m a bit stubborn with sickness and refused to believe I had anything but allergies. As far as lifting goes, I went back to the gym the day after the fever broke so around day 6. Took maybe a week after that to ramp back up to true max effort work.
