Embarrassing Google results FML

Let's say that something embarrassing comes up on the first page when you Google yourself. You're trying to get the responsible party to take it down, but for the time being it's still there, and very conspicuous. Has this happened to you / anyone you know? How did you deal with it?

Unfortunately online reputation management can take 3-4 months to take affect...

Ok here's exactly what you need to do:

Go to Brandyourself.com and make an account.

Go to the following sites: Twitter Quora Tumblr Facebook LinkedIn Google+ BigSight AboutMe

Make your username your actual name so that your actual name is in the URL of the websites.

There's no guarantee that you'll dislodge the link if it's the top link in the search, but if you do it right you'll see your front google search page change in 1-3 weeks.

another thing: post links of those urls in each of the pages.

the more places that link to your site, the higher the priority. Although it's likely that this won't help much. In my case, it moved the info to the second page, but it jumps back sometimes.

Guys,

You made me check my name. I am fucked up with a flirting website right on the top with my name, age and town. My name is relatively uncommon, I come from a small town from a small european country, needless to say that it can only be me. I wanted to do politics later on, here I am, screwd!!!

The account was shut down by myself a few months ago, but it freaking remains.

Do you believe it's worth creating multiple fake accounts with my name and other city as mentioned above or it could screwd me even more since my name is not that common?

Any other guess

Best,

Ed

Buy a month's access to the site and change your name in your profile. Change location, age, etc to be sure.

Relax, if you're not hawking clunkers for IlliniProgrammer's Rusty Honda, it's not that bad.

So your name is on a dating website. I don't think it's the end of the world.

1.) Delete the post above. 2.) Put your real name in your sig. 3.) Reserve your trolling for your troll account.
4.) Set up linkedin and facebook. 5.) Dating website's rank will diminish.

i went through the same thing. If you sign up for twitter, instagram, linkedin, gmail, googleplus, facebook, etc. etc. etc. and then link all of those websites to each other, that will move them up to the first few results when you search your name. You can hire an online reputation managemetn company, but like you said it takes liek 4 months and costs a ton of money.

I just linked all of my social networking sites and within 6 months it was down at the third page of google.

What's a flirting website?

Unless it's like Adult Friend Finder or something, I don't think it's that big of a deal.

Bonobo, good for you, and thanks for the advice.

arbitrary:
Also, how often do you Google 'name + university' vs. just 'name.' The former results are screwing me over harder than the latter.
To add onto this, does anybody know how likely is it that HR will Google your "preferred name + legal name + last name + university name," if you don't ever utilize your legal name apart from on your application form when they specifically ask for it?

Does deleting a Facebook account remove all search results associated with that account?
