Energy Drinks that Don't Suck

I know energy drinks are terrible for you, but I can't help myself. Coffee makes me shit and nothing gets me through an after-lunch slump better than a cold energy drink.

Through college I was a big fan of sugar free Red Bull. Most of the other big brand names just aren't my favorite. I like to grab Celsius watermelon flavor from seven-eleven sometimes, but lately I've been liking Yerba Mate, the Revel Berry flavor. I've heard good things about Guru too

Do you find that the pills eliminate a lot of the side effects that come along with getting caffeine from things like coffee? i.e. heartburn from acidity, having to poop, jitters, etc.

I think you're going to experience all these things with the pills as well. I suggest a good probiotic drink, such as Redwood Hill Farm Goat Milk Kefir (Whole Foods). I like the plain the best and pour in maple syrup on the top to make it taste really good.

Redwood Hill Farm Traditional Plain Kefir, 32 Ounce -- 6 per case.

Sugar free Rockstars. You know you have a habit when people think something's wrong if I don't have one with me when I walk into the office in the morning. Otherwise I'd say talk to a doctor/psychiatrist about something that starts with M and ends in afinil if you don't want to do caffeine at all.

I think you should also try fasting all day and drinking green tea - it is a constant source of energy. Eating lunch really brings you down depending on what you eat. If you eat pretty light and mostly vegetables, it should carry you to the end of the day. If you eat heavy foods and meats for lunch - it can really bring you down. If you haven't fasted before it might be hard the first couple of days, but when you get used to it you start to have a lot of energy during the fast and feel a sort of constant high.

I imagine I'd have no energy when I get to the gym after work. I abide by an animal-based diet so lots of red meat and lots of fruit

I would make a shake and drink it after work or your last 30min before getting off of work. Possibly peanut butter banana strawberry and greens and protein powder if you wish. Almond butter might be healthier, but I like the taste of PB. If you are intermittent fasting and drink the shake at 4:30pm, you have an 8 hour window to eat (up to 12:30am). You could throw some oats in the shake if you want more carbs. Then I would recommend a preworkout. You should feel ready to go to the gym at that point. Then the best time to eat meats is after your workout.
