Based on the most engaging WSO threads, humor is subjective, but some timeless comedic gems have been highlighted. While Key and Peele are undeniably brilliant with their sharp, satirical skits, other comedic legends like Rodney Dangerfield have been celebrated for their perseverance and iconic one-liners. For example, Rodney's journey from selling aluminum siding to becoming a household name is a testament to his comedic genius.

If you're looking for current favorites, the WSO dataset doesn't explicitly list modern comedians, but it does emphasize the importance of humor in interviews and networking. A well-timed joke, like the pirate with the ship's wheel in his pants ("Arrr, it's driving me nuts!"), can leave a lasting impression. So, while Key and Peele dominate your list, don't forget to explore other comedic styles that resonate with your sense of humor!

I'm trying to figure a response without relying on the back catalog. you've seen Super  troopers and  Canadian Bacon, right?

The only difference between Asset Management and Investment Research is assets. I generally see somebody I know on TV on Bloomberg/CNBC etc. once or twice a week. This sounds cool, until I remind myself that I see somebody I know on ESPN five days a week.

Yeah super troopers is hilarious - haven’t seen the latter.

When he said current, you know John Candy died like 30 years ago

First, I admitted I was going into the back catalog, second, Trump's been talking about annexing Canada.  Having a movie about America (Ok, a handful of Buffalo police officers) invading Canada already made seems pretty current to me.  The fact that it includes John Candy and Dan Akroyd is just a bonus.  ;-)

No malice here, but I think I have a decent argument.

Andrew Schulz. One I could never stand, Hasan Minaj. I share a similar ethnicity as him and I never found him to be funny.

Loved Kay & Peele! Got hospitalized in the early 2010s for a day or so and I binge watched Kay & Peele (was there overnight and couldn't sleep, K&P was playing back to back from like 10 PM to 4 AM). Hurt to laugh but have watched all their skits since.

Dude Hasan got boring so fast. Can't stand a guy leaning on the brown jokes for his entire shtick. Like it's funny for a bit then you need some new material

Funniest

Shane Gillis' skits are top tier. Only ones that've made me laugh harder are the old Chappelle Show ones and classic Monty Python. Tim Dillon also has some god-tier rants.

My favorites:

* Bill Burr is killing it lately
* Josh Johnson is blowing up
* Matt Rife is up and coming
* Jimmy Carr still doing his thing
* Nimesh Patel also crazy funny

People who dropped off the list:
* Tom Segura - got lazy and shitty
* Wanda Sykes - not relevant anymore

Dave Chapelle got all preachy and weird, still funny but MEH

EDIT - How can I forget Michelle Wolf, she’s absolutely ruthless and even better in person: for a good time, heckle her.  Also, Eric Andre is my spirit animal.

Get busy living

Honestly, besides Shane Gillis, there aren't many current comedians that I really enjoy. Nate Bargatze is super funny and underrated, but beyond that, there aren't many people I would genuinely watch for a full set. John Crist was alright for awhile, Jimmy Carr's humor gets repetitive, Bill Burr is pretty inconsistent- he was funny on SNL. Kenan Thompson's skits on SNL are super funny- I really like him. Old Dave Chappelle remains the gold standard for me- Chappelle's Show is quite possibly the funniest thing I have ever seen. Key and Peele was great too. Robin Williams and Norm Macdonald were hilarious- would definitely recommend checking out some of their stuff.

Interestingly enough I am not a Matt Rife fan, even though I love his format- not sure what about it just turns me off.  It kinda feels like the person who tries too hard to be funny when we're hanging out. Trevor Wallace's crowd work is underrated tho- I prefer him over Rife by quite a bit. Hopefully I'm not forgetting anyone.

I do not go out of my way to watch comedians but Russell Peters and Dana Carvey are very funny for different reasons.  Peters is the ethnic jokster while Carvey is fantastic at impressions.
