Good Books on Modern US History?

Have some time on my hands these days and wanted to spend some time reading up on modern American history (starting at say the 1900s).

Any book recommendations to start on? One book doesn't have to cover the entire 120 years but would be most interested in topics around economics and politics. A bit less interested in World War I/II/Vietnam since I think I have a good baseline understanding.

Diplomacy by Henry Kissinger. I'm only about 50-100 pages into it myself, but it covers this time period (with some back stories thrown in) and is excellent thus far. Long book though it'll take awhile. It's also very 'readable' in that there aren't thousands of useless details; it's very to the point

It's sitting on my shelf staring right at me, good to hear that it's pretty good so far.

Wall Street: A History by Charles R. Geisst

https://www.amazon.com/Wall-Street-Charles-R-Geisst/dp/0195396219/ref=d…

In this wide-ranging volume, financial historian Charles Geisst provides the first history of Wall Street, explaining how a small, concentrated pocket of lower Manhattan came to have such enormous influence in national and world affairs.

Praise for the first edition: "A thorough retelling of a critical--though often overlooked--aspect of U.S. history."--The Wall Street Journal

"A quick-reading history of the United States as told through the doings of bankers and brokers."--The Washington Post

"An important and entertaining commentary for anyone interested in understanding the role of Wall Street in the development of the U.S. into an economic superpower."--James R. Barth, Lowder Eminent Scholar in Finance, Auburn University

"If you always put limits on everything you do, physical or anything else, it will spread into your work and into your life. There are no limits. There are only plateaus, and you must not stay there, you must go beyond them." - Bruce Lee
