How to combat stress symptoms (balding)

Hello all,

As per the title, I have recently been experiencing some difficulty in the noggin region. I've been fortunate enough to hold on to most of my head of lettuce for quite some time, but I think that some work on high-profile deals in the past few weeks has really started eat away at my hair in the form of balding. I've been receding slightly for a while now, but it has become much more apparent even over this short time frame. I fear that appearing older than my age (38) may cause some trouble commanding respect in my position as someone who entered the firm at an older age due to a change of industries. Any tips and condolences would be greatly appreciated. Cheers.

Hair loss as a result of stress is actually an old wives tale / common misconception. Outside of rare medical issues  (such as Telogen Effluvium - rapid hair loss from a major stressed induced incident like childbirth or a traumatic injury - which manifests as massive hairloss across the scalp, not recession / male pattern baldness thinning), most hair loss is actually completely genetic and almost entirely unrelated to environment/diet/stress.

The reason most people associate it with joining high stress fields such as banking or law or medicine is the formative years of those careers (AN/AS, law school, med school) align with when most males who have early MPB start to show noticeable loss. Hair loss is also funny that the first ~50%+ of thinning men go through is largely unnoticeable (unless you are really looking at someones scalp) and you dont start really seeing thin patches / recession until a lot of damage has been done.

Your best bet is going on either (or both) finasteride and minoxidil (rogaine) - only 2 medical treatment developed to date that show scientifically proven clinical results. Both fairly easy to obtain through online mens health platforms or your PCP.

Yep, I've been taking 1mg finasteride for 1 month now and no complaints here either.

Just adding my experience here. I was on Finasteride, no major issues but started experiencing sides at the 2 year mark. Mostly mental fog, low libido/limpness, reduced desire to achieve things. I've been off it for a year doing a bit better now but a bunch of the symptoms still lingering which I hope will go away with time

Not saying people shouldn't give it a shot but sharing my 2c

Other treatment options which you can add to your hair care routine on top of finasteride/minoxidil for incremental benefits: 5-minute scalp massages to increase bloodflow to scalp and micro needling (once a week). Have also heard that these red light hats have a small benefit

Finasteride has been proven to work at stopping hair loss, with claims that it can also regrow hair. However, there are many horror stories about the side effects.

Androgenic Alopecia is usually attributed to a sensitivity to DHT. However, cortisol can play a role, as well as aging in general.

Basically, it sucks, it will happen, try the Finasteride + Minoxidil + Biotin spray from Hims. It does not have the side effects of oral Finasteride, but probably isn't as effective. I wish I could say I have the hairline I did when I was 18, but it is worth a try. Also there are PRP injections that are supposed to help, however you must keep doing them for them to be effective causing many people to value hair restoration instead.
