Marry into a billion-dollar family?

My family is from a third-world country but I live in the United States. I recently found out my cousin married into a billion-dollar family, in this third-world country. I'm thinking about doing the same thing and could leverage this connection. The country's power structure is solely based on family history and ethnic background. My family's influence has diminished due to family members marrying outside of their "class", which I have no problem with. I have always wanted to return and restore our wealth. It would be easier to build wealth in this country than in the US. Money isn't everything, but it would be nice to set up my family for life. I can realistically move to the country and join the oligarchy. I wonder if it's worth it, anyone been in a similar situation?

  • I've also never been to said country but can speak the language.

Marry for love, not for money. Also, the odds of finding a billionaire wife are pretty low.

Yes, I was in a similar situation once. My uncle died climbing Mount Everest and there was seemingly no one to inherit his some $40B fortune. I was working at a pizzeria slinging pizzas and writing greeting cards on the side while living in New Hampshire. I immediately flew out to New York City to work out the details and collect the inheritance. Long story short, we ended up finding out that my uncle had an affair with one of the housekeepers and it turned out his son was actually the butler. Emilio, the butler, ended up giving me a billion just because he liked me. I used the money to buy my whole town shiny red corvettes.  I'd go into more detail but it'd take a long time to tell the story.

I think overall you're being given good advice about marrying for love not money. 

However, I do think there can be exceptions and that is a helpmate. If you're not familiar with the term, then you should look it up. If you can position yourself as an effective helpmate in the marriage then it might be something that benefits the both of you and you wouldn't be marrying purely for money. Plus, given the needs of a family like this, it might be something that your spouse appreciates.
