One Amazon Engineer brings down Capital One
Reference article: I can't post a link due to # of posts but type in " CNBC capital one data breach" into google and its the first article that comes upl
It has been discovered recently that a single former Amazon engineer engaged in a data breach that affects 100 million Capital One customers. Capital One had been storing the information in the Amazon cloud (since this is cheaper than a private storage system) The individual, Paige Thompson managed to get past the Capital One firewall. She then proceeded to make herself anonymous and starting collecting thousands of social security and bank account numbers. As a result, Capital One's shares have plummeted dramatically.
The fact that so much information was relatively easily available is alarming to say the least. The fact Capital One had such information stored in an external system (most likely without their customers even knowing) calls into question the right to privacy. I think that stronger privacy measures need to be taken enforced by the government. Also the fact that an Amazon engineer did this at work is making me concerned. Obviously Amazon will claim no responsibility. But in recent years, the blurring of tech and financial firms has become evident with tech firms arguably starting to cannibalize part of the financial industry. I have no evidence, but I will put it out there whether anyone thinks there was an intentional element on Amazon's part in this scandal. I'm not entirely buying that someone could take the time to pull this off at work without upper management noticing.
Have you taken a look at who did it "Paige Thompson" he/she is clearly acting alone who thought it would be cool to expose millions of Americans lives. It's some white knight liberal fantasy to take down the gubberment and shadow-y banking institutes. This is a literal quote from it "Ive basically strapped myself with a bomb vest, f---ing dropping Capital One's dox and admitting it" sounds like a stable minded individual to me.
Exactly what point are you making here?
This has to be Trump’s fault, right? Better get Mueller out of retirement.
I'm sorry. It's clear that I've been misunderstood to be some leftist liberal who is anti-business. I can assure you I am not that at all.
However, I still do not understand how Paige would have been able to pull this off AT work without some assistance. Any ideas?
i was about to go cop some capone it's not even at it's month's low ya bluffer
Well you can see a pretty significant decrease in the past couple days and its trending down
Stupid bank dumb fucks thought it was good to move “to the cloud”. I bet this person stole more shit or in any case more dumb banks will get their shit stolen.
As someone who works in Healthcare IT/Consulting, security is dangerously lacking everywhere.......
