Either is fine.

All the best, Best Regards,

etc.. are all pretty much the same.

I used to do Asia-Pacific PE (kind of like FoF). Now I do something else but happy to try and answer questions on that stuff.

I'm naturally very casual in my workplace emails (even to Partners, MDs, etc.) and have never had an issue. To be honest, compared to some of the sycophantic, overly unctuous drivel they frequently receive from other Analysts / Associates, I think they appreciate a more friendly (albeit still polite) approach - as mentioned, have never had any negative feedback about it and often receive very cordial emails in return. I opt for "kind regards."

I've seen 1 or 2 old school partners do it this way. Best was when it was already their auto-sig for replies.

I once received the below reply for sending one of them edits on slides, he forgot about the auto-sig and wrote out ta again. Twice.

"Thx.

Ta

TA

Ta.

Name"

Tier 1 (oh good, I'm communicating with a normal person): Best, / Thanks, / Regards, Tier 2 (a bit formal, but whatever): Best regards, / Sincerely, / Warm regards, Tier 3 (this is weird and/or you probably don't speak my language fluently): Very truly yours, / My deepest thanks, Tier 4 (I hate you): Cheers,

I used Very Respectfully when I was active duty and I still use it now. Might be a bit formal but I don’t care because I don’t think anybody actually pays attention to the salutation on an email.

I normally use "Best," and "Best Regards," though I will throw in a "Thanks," or if I'm really feeling like a BSD just a lol. Nah in all seriousness, I seriously don't think anyone in industry has the time or energy to pick a bone with just about all of the aforementioned sign offs... tho some may be a little odd. just stick to the common ones and you can't go wrong.

If it is someone I have never emailed before I usually start with "Kind regards." If there is a lot of back and forth I usually just shorten it to "Best" which I consider somewhat informal and not appropriate for first contact or just "Regards" as a formality.

If I really appreciate what someone has done for me I usually throw in a "Warm regards" or "Many thanks."

I think this something that builds naturally over time and you develop a professional email voice. Before university I used to stress over every aspect of an email including the sign off. After hundreds upon hundreds of emails with professors and then job recruiters and now at work (and still with recruiters/hiring managers) I just review for the typos.

It is also different in some cultures, I never worked with FIs down there but apparently in Curacao they are very formal. Opening emails with "Most esteemed ______." That's anecdote someone gave me, so I would be interested if anyone else had that experience.

Some of you all would be surprised but random stuff like this can matter. I had a teacher in hs who would refuse to answer emails that started with the greeting:

Dear [insert said teachers name],

Array

This is part of the reason I've started to hate email. Inflection is entirely lost. I have one boss who will write back 'noted' and that means effectively "thanks, i'll be sure to bring this up in XX meeting" and another that it basically means " you are a fucking gutter slug - I want to pour salt on you".

Regardless, they all are generally fine.

I'm trying something new. I used to say regards or some canned bullshit, but recently I've tried making the last line of my email just the signature, like wishing someone a good week, good luck with some upcoming thing they're doing, or saying thank you. feels much more natural than "regards"

we'll see if it sticks, if not, I've got some others I can try out

Imagine caring about this

Imagine not caring about this - sounds like a lack of attention to detail.
