What is American democracy really?

The series of events lately got me thinking again about our system. Every 4 years we got bunch of guys appearing on TV in their nicely tailored suits bullshiting about what they are gonna do for the country. Then we boil it down to 2, and more clown ass shows on TV.

They spend hundreds of millions of dollars, making ads that make themselves look good and attack other candidates. Whoever spends more money is more likely to win, so they are essentially minions of people who give them money. Working class can never outspend big corporations,  so year after year we elect politicians that work for big corporations to exploit the poor.

Spending money to campaign,  spending money to brainwash people,  spending money to change policies. Whoever has more money controls politics. What a joke democracy.

I agree. The US preaches democracy yet has an electoral system that isn't governed by popular vote like every other single democracy in the world. This last administration was (hopefully) a one off, but showed that if riled up enough, Americans reject the concept of transition of power and will do anything, including resorting to violence. What happened today was an utter embarrassment and any self-respecting American should be ashamed that half of their country behaved in such as way. Two things have been certain from this last administration that I hope the next can fix:

  1. The US is no longer a global role model for anything
  2. The world does not respect America

I think we should amend this to "conservatives in America reject the concept of peaceful transition of power."  The only times we ever see this kind of political violence is from the right.

And no, for whichever of you bigoted douchebags wants to come on with their whataboutism, protesting the known fact that black people can be murdered by the state with impunity does not constitute this kind of political violence.  Those people wanted equal treatment under the law - these "patriots" want an end to democracy in general.

Sure, let's judge the character of a whole group by the actions of a few extremists, great thought. This is the same bullshit that BLM pushed back on when it was insinuated that all BLM rallies caused violence.  Grow the fuck up and recognize that the majority of this country is extremely moderate. Not every liberal is a huge PC pussy   and not every conservative is a fucking deranged Alex  Jones wannabe.

The American Experiment is teetering. Everything I've been screaming about for the last four years came true this week, and last night we had a majority of House Republicans vote to overturn the Electoral College results with no evidence of fraud and 60+ court cases lost. I'm truly speechless that we've gotten to this point as a country, and separately that so many allegedly smart WSO users cheered the Trump movement every step of the way.

I want to believe those representatives are just pandering to their voter base to save face, rather than being so incompetent. It is Congress though... incompetence tends to run high

It's political theater for the midwits of the professional classes who actually believe the bullshit while neoliberals can loot this country clean. The masses, on the other hand, don't really care that much.

Do you know there is a thing called lobby? Also there is a thing called senators. There is also a thing called local governors. Endless money spending friend.
