When do you usually schedule therapy in IB?

Above.

Also, should interns just not go to therapy during the internship? Since it's a 8-10 weeks race to get the return, and I can't imagine it would look favorable to be missing for an hour a week.

Based on the highest ranked content on WSO, scheduling therapy or any personal appointments during an investment banking internship can be challenging due to the demanding nature of the job. Here are some key points to consider:

  1. Scheduling Therapy:

    • If you need to schedule therapy, try to do it at times that are least disruptive to your work schedule. Early mornings, late evenings, or weekends might be more feasible.
    • Communicate in advance: If you have a therapy session, inform your team ahead of time. For example, you can say, “This is my health, I gave advanced notice, apologize for the inconvenience, will be back online at x hour.”
  2. Interns and Therapy:

    • While the internship is indeed a short and intense period, prioritizing your mental health is crucial. Missing an hour a week for therapy should not be detrimental if managed properly.
    • Transparency and professionalism are key. Make sure to communicate your schedule and availability clearly to your team.
  3. General Advice:

    • If you face resistance or flak for attending therapy, reiterate the importance of your health and the notice you provided.
    • If the work environment becomes too toxic or unsupportive, consider discussing the situation with a mentor or someone you trust within the organization.

Remember, maintaining your mental health is important, and with proper communication and planning, you can manage both your internship responsibilities and personal well-being.

This is what I never understand about all the therapy guys in finance. Finding a legit, top-class therapist who is taking ANY new clients is not easy. Finding one whose going to be taking new clients on weekends or outside of regular working hours is damn near impossible (for me it has been at least).

Sure, there are plenty of glorified social workers out there that you can find through your insurance network, who will have availability for you over Zoom at any time of day. In my opinion that type of therapy, which has become a pop culture sensation, is just utterly useless anyway.

The only therapy I respect is that which is conducted by a 55+ aged shrink, typically with a very jewish or eastern european sounding same, who demands you do at least two appointments a week or don't even sign up, and will leave you in tears with harsh truths after every session. If it hurts, that means it's working.

But I'm just some asshole with personality disorders so wtf do I even know. For less fucked up people the teletherapy might be more than enough.

Lol you realize there are qualified therapists who take virtual sessions as well right? Just because finding one isn't easy doesn't mean it's impossible. I'd suggest you reach out to any contact you might have with your insurance if you're serious about finding one and note that you haven't been able to do so and they might be able to help search for one directly.

As to your second paragraph - you're welcome to disagree, but there are plenty of people who have found value in therapy (including myself). Just because one experience (seemingly) has not worked for you doesn't mean the statement is true for everyone. And there are therapists out there who are sincerely trying to help, not "reading from a textbook" - I'd recommend you try someone else.

Yeah I'm just venting my own frustrations, and the thing is, I'm reaaaaalllllyyyyy fucked up. I changed my initial comment to acknowledge that lighter teletherapy, 1x a week might be totally adequate for others.

For the shit I got going on I need a dude that looks like Ellie Wiesel and takes no prisoners in his approach to dispelling maladaptive attitudes. From my experience too, a lot of the actual top-ranked shrinks wont even take insurance. It's like finding a good lawyer. If you just got some small case, sure, the public defender is fine and convenient/economical. Now if you're OJ Simpson, you're gonna need Ben fucking Braffman and that's a bit harder to swing for your average working chimp like me /:
