Don’t know him personally but I’ve worked with a few people who have - Justin Yoshimura the founder of CSC Generation.  Look at how fast that firm has grown and his background. It’s insane how CONSISTENT he is. Clearly a result of being brilliant and not dumb luck. I’m surprised the firm isn’t mentioned here more, the deals they’ve done are pretty incredible.

I’ve also heard from prior and current employees that he can be a bit off the rails during internal meetings. CSC also seems to underpay folks coming out of banking relative to other opportunities (~$100K all-in). They were hiring not too long ago and my buddy spoke to a few people there.

Nonetheless, seems like a good firm to pick up interesting operating experience at.

Right? Sounds like someone who was scared of failing in the real world and stuck with academia until the very last second...I know lots of people like that from my Ivy, specifically high-achieving minorities who don't want to fail expectations of them from family and friends...

While undoubtedly a very impressive academic resume, why in the hell would you put yourself through all those years of school to become a MBB consultant?

I think it’s out of order (at least I hope so...)

If by accomplished you mean a nice resume (good schools, internships, work experience), don't know anyone personally that's done that much just yet.

I do have a friend from university that had a moment of clarity in a finance class where he realized how much money he was losing by not cutting hair (he'd been a "barber" for friends since early highschool). Changed his education path to graduate asap and moved into easier classes (electives and such). Currently 26/27 and owns a popular barber shop with 4-6 employees. Booked often for 4-6 weeks out. Financially flying (don't know exact figures but doing very well [30mins a cut x $60 x 8-12hr shifts). Considering a second shop pre-COVID. Did it all himself via the quality of his work + some grinding. Got a ton of respect for that kid.

One of my closest friends fooled around immediately after highschool for 1/2 years, then moved across country for engineering. Finished top of his class. Been working for a global resource company as a project engineer / manager, granted technically employed as a consultant/contractor. Clears $150 to $200 based on how many hours he logs. Currently doing an online/distance masters program at a solid school while living in S America and logging some part-time hours to pay the bills.

Accomplished career wise, I know a guy in his late 20s who was an average college grad and is now head trader for one of the top pods at one of the major MM HFs. He's an absolute killer and his signing bonus was more than most PE associate's all-in comp.  By another measure I'm former teammates with a guy who's still in college and currently one of the top athletes in the world for his sport, and one of the best the US has produced in decades.  He was going to be headed to the Olympics this year if not for COVID; couldn't be more down to earth and a nicer guy.

Good guess, but no.  Track was never my thing.

Reid Barton - I didn't know him well at all, but I met him once during college so I suppose it counts.

Some highlights:
Scored a 5 on AP Calculus exam - at age 10... (I wasn't even doing Algebra yet at age 10...)
Took college-level Chemistry and Physics classes in the 5th and 6th grade
4x Gold Medal winner in International Math Olympiad during high school (including a perfect score in 2001)
4x Putnam Fellow in college

Sometimes I do ask myself: why am I, with my peanut brain, even trying to compete with these people in the same field

Two kids I went to HS. Slightly different routes. One went Mech E at MIT straight to PhD program at MIT. Finished undergrad with a 4.0 and PhD program by 25. Founded a robotics company. Other was Ivy league to EB to Oaktree. Made VP at 28 there.

Few players recall big pots they have won, strange as it seems, but every player can remember with remarkable accuracy the outstanding tough beats of his career.
