Youngest to XXX on College Resume

I'm sure it varies from case to case but is it ever okay to say you were the youngest person to have a certain position on your resume, especially while at college?

Specifically I am the youngest person to have ever represented my college at a specific case competition and am not sure whether to include it or not, sounds pretty tooly to me.

”Youngest person to” claims on resume

It’s probably a good idea to leave a “ youngest person to …” type claim off of your resume.

Only list it if it is something that is really impressive. Maybe it's something involving large amounts of risk that paid off for you. Or, a large amount of responsibility relative to your junior position etc. These sorts of points should be impressive in themselves (ex. climbing Denali) and the “youngest to” part should just make it that much more impressive.

Key Takeaways

  • Only add “youngest to” an accomplishment if the accomplishment is impressive on it’s own.

I was the youngest system owner at the bank I worked for. As in, I was the only 23-year-old there to be running his own system that delivered trading analytics and confirms. I no longer list that fact on my resume (though I do list the fact that I ran that system.) I believed- and still believe- this is more responsibility than most traders with their own books have.

Are you still worried about the quality of your resume?

Not really sure about that, I've always been the youngest person in the offices where I've interned but I would never put that on my résumé or even mention it. I don't think that would really impress anyone since most college students are the young'ns in their internships. However, in your specific case since you were the youngest in a competition you could probably mention that in interviews or even your cover letter. Putting it on your résumé, not sure, it's your call.

I've always been the youngest to do anything around as well, but definitely this:

I think you can put it on there, but these things have a short half-life. Take it off in six months, maybe a year.

I was wondering the same thing. I was the youngest analyst for my investment club in the seventeen years since its been around. No testament to my financial prowess, but rather I had reached out to the head of the finance dept through the dean of my business school for another reason and he invited me to join when all I wanted to be was set up-clean up grunt. I currently have it on my resume. Any advice would be appreciated.
