Buy side Infra fund case study 3H

Anyone have any idea what the case study might be? Really want to be adequately prepared

Have already attempted a 4H modelling test, therefore I highly doubt it will be related to modelling.

Welcome any thoughts on this! Thank You!

Based on the most helpful WSO content, buy-side infrastructure fund case studies often focus on areas beyond just financial modeling, especially if you've already completed a modeling test. Here are some possibilities to consider for a 3-hour case study:

  1. Investment Memo Preparation:
You might be given a brief information packet about an infrastructure asset (e.g., a toll road, renewable energy project, or telecom tower) and asked to prepare a short investment memo. This could include:

    • Key investment highlights.
    • Risks and mitigants.
    • High-level valuation or return expectations (without detailed modeling).
    • Strategic fit for the fund.
  2. Qualitative Analysis:
The case could involve analyzing a specific sector or trend in the infrastructure space. For example:

    • Assessing the attractiveness of greenfield vs. brownfield investments.
    • Evaluating the impact of regulatory changes on a specific asset class.
    • Identifying key risks in a particular geography or sector (e.g., renewable energy, transportation).
  3. Deal Structuring or Strategy:
You might be asked to propose a deal structure or strategy for acquiring an asset. This could involve:

    • Discussing potential financing options (e.g., debt vs. equity mix).
    • Highlighting partnership opportunities (e.g., co-investments or secondaries).
    • Outlining a high-level approach to value creation.
  4. Market Trends and Sector Analysis:
Some case studies focus on your understanding of the infrastructure market. You could be asked to:

    • Identify trends in a specific sector (e.g., telecom, power, or transportation).
    • Recommend a sector or asset type for investment based on current market conditions.
  5. Portfolio Management:
A scenario where you analyze an existing portfolio of assets and recommend actions (e.g., hold, sell, or reinvest). This could involve:

    • Assessing performance metrics.
    • Identifying underperforming assets.
    • Suggesting strategies to optimize returns.

To prepare effectively: - Review research reports on key infrastructure sectors. - Practice summarizing investment opportunities concisely. - Brush up on qualitative aspects of infrastructure investing, such as regulatory considerations, ESG factors, and risk management.

Good luck with your case study!
