Career advice

Hey, I would like to hear your opinions on what do I have to do. So I am a first year international student at uot, planning to do a major in econ, international relations and wanna work at PE. But because of some financial problems I am only taking a 3 courses ( on average you have to take 5 ) and working at a part time job simultaneously. During the summer I am planning to do internship in small bank which is in home country, also  get "fmva" certificate and google's data analyst certificate. Are these 2 worth it? and what do I have to do have a successful career in a industry with emerging use of AI

Blunt answer is you wont get into PE in Canada without IB experience. Certificates may help a little, but they are weak data points on your hireability. I can count a handfull of instances where people go straight from ugrad to PE, but that is after already working for the firm and performing well. Best advice is to tackle the root issue by gaining actual finance experience (IB ideally), have a good GPA, and work extra hard on networking as you are in a target program
