Preparing for a 3-4 Hour Financial Modeling Test - Need Advice
Hi everyone,
I’m currently interviewing with a mid-market private equity firm that focuses on growth strategies within the industrials sector. I've been scheduled for a 3-4 hour financial modeling test at their office, and since this is my first time interviewing with a PE firm, I really need some advice.
Could anyone share insights on the expected complexity and depth of the test? I’m particularly interested in understanding:
- What types of financial analysis are commonly required? (e.g., LBO, DCF, Merger models)
- Are there specific areas within industrials that I should focus on given the firm’s growth strategy emphasis?
Additionally, if you have any resources, prep materials, or tips that you found particularly useful for similar tests, I would greatly appreciate your recommendations.
Thanks in advance!
Familiarizing yourself with LBO, 3 statements model and DCF should be the priority. Peak Framework’s modeling tests (until level 3) are pretty standard if you haven’t checked them out. Have also heard good things about WSO’s models but you might wanna look into an Industrials specific one.
Super helpful! I am checking now. Thanks!
I would doubt you need a dcf. Likely going to be given a CIM and asked to build a full LBO model from scratch + potentially have to create a few slides. You'll likely have to come up with your own assumptions for everything so have a good sense of current debt levels and pricing, acquisition multiples, etc.
wow, thanks for this. Got it.
