What to do here?
I'm in month 2 of my first full-time role after college, focusing on VC/growth equity fund investing at an LP. I had successful internships in IB & private fund investing at a smaller LP, which led me to bet on myself and join my current firm in my preferred city.
After 2 weeks of training with my analyst class, plus another 3 weeks of training with an analyst who left at the end of August, I joined a lean deal team (me, an AVP in a different city, and an MD). I made some typical 1st-year analyst mistakes between late August and early September such not giving myself enough time on a task because I was scared to ask questions upfront, and a request that came in last minute for a client's IC but fell apart because the deck wouldn't save properly.
Needless to say, I was moved to a generalist role earlier this week. My new team is much more welcoming and cohesive, but I feel thrown under the bus and I wish I had more time to settle in. The ability to finally focus on my asset class of choice and have a leader who believes in me had me so excited and my ultimate goal is VC fund investing. I really want to stay through my first year because leaving earlier than that just isn't a good look and I can keep the signing bonus. Has anyone else been through this? What could I have done better and what should my course of action be from here?
