Business school for bacchelor program

Hello,

My son has been offered a place and scholarships in different business schools to start a bachelor program.

It is maybe a mistake but we think that the most important will be the Master after, to choose the right one and above all in the best possible school.

Nevertheless, to make the bachelor in the best possible school will also definitively help for his development as well as to increase his chance to go for a good MBA.

He has applied to various Business Management bachelor programs and woud like to specialize in Finance. He does not know yet exactly what branch of finance (investments, bank, entreprise...) it is still a bit abstract for him and it is normal.

We are an international french moving family, having lived in 4 different continents. My son is fluent in english, has lived a longer time in various countries than in France and will spend his personal and profesional life wherever he can in the world.

He has been accepted to some US universities but we think that the benefit vs the price to spend does not worth it.

He has been offered a place in McGill, in IE Business school (Madrid), Essec (Global BAA) and still waiting for Bocconi. These are his 4 most favorite schools for him.

In what order do you think are the best school? We both think Bocconi would be the best choice for a business management/finance bachelor but what is for you the other best alternatives?

I really do not know what would be the 2nd option to choose after Bocconi.  Essec Global BAA, IE, McGill??

We think it is important to get advices from professional of the sector.

Thank you for your help.

Hey, my ranking would be like this:

Bocconi>McGill>>>>>>ESSEC>IE

Bocconi by far would be the best. Both ESSEC And IE are far worst options. Did you not apply to RSM, HSE, Warwick or SSE. These are better options than the previous two mentioned.

Good luck

Bocconi is clearly your best bet here:

  • One of the world's most recognised university for undergrads in business & finance
  • Very easy to pursue with a Tier 1 MiM/MiF/MBA in Europe or the US
  • Shorter program (3 years) vs. 4 years for other bachelors mentioned
  • Relatively cheap compared to ESSEC/IE
  • Keep doors open for quantitative finance (vs. BBA programs)

It's also the hardest program to get into, so if your son is rejected, I'd consider McGill or IE. These are also good programs that leave doors open for "Grande Ecole" programs in France and good MiF, provided your son is very good at standardised tests (e.g GMAT).

ESSEC is clearly the least regarded program, specially in France, but it can still lead to a Tier 1/2 MiF.

McGill has the Honours Investment Management program, which takes in a few select students from the business school. Students serve as analysts on the student investment fund during the duration of the program. If the goal is asset management or investing roles this may be valuable experience if he can be selected.

will keep you informed...

My son has received a new offer from Warwick university as well as the admission for the HEC-Bocconi double program, 3 year bachelor but on Data, Society and Organisations track (International Politics & Government) which is not his first program choice.

He is really waiting for mid-march to have Bocconi International Economics and Finance or Management  decision.

Congrats!

Warwick is really good if money is not an issue. Otherwise wait for Bocconi’s decision.

HEC-Bocconi Dual Bachelor is brand new so hard to say if it's a good program but I guess it is given the pedigrees of both schools. I just wonder if you can join a "Grande École" program in France after that.

Next Monday 03/11 will be released the Bocconi results of the winter cession.

If and depending the options my son could be admited,  Bocconi remains his first choice.

His 2nd choice tends to be now the double program Bocconi-HEC newly launched " Data, Society and Organisations track".

This is different than his initial will to take the Finance or Business route, but he seems also very interested by the new challenges that our world will face with all the big changes in front of us (environment, AI,...).

This is a new program, supposedly to address a new job market but difficult for me to help him and give him some perspectives of what could be the kind of carrier he could touch.  His target would also to push to a Master,  he seems that this new double-program will be elligible to apply for a PGE at HEC (Programme Grande Ecole), but how difficult will it be compare to other "standard" bacchelors or diplomas.... also difficult to say as it is new.

I know also, that this is business, bachelor type of study is quite new in France and HEC is one of the latest school to launch a bachelor, to address a new business for sure!! I guess there is a serious business case behind that not to launch something useless... but, I prefer to ask.

I am not in the business, finance or world, government related jobs, I am in the private sector, in the manufacturing industry, maybe some of you would have better perseptives of what kind of job is opened to this new double bachelor.  Below a presentation of this program.

Thank yo for your help again !!

With data and AI revolutionizing the furthest reaches of society, business and government policy, an inter-disciplinary training in data and social sciences is crucial today for understanding and supporting these societal and organizational transformations. With this in mind, Bocconi University is launching the Data, Society and Organisations track, a double program in the BSc in International Politics and Government, offered in collaboration with HEC Paris.

This new program, which will kick off in academic year 2024/25, uniquely merges social science critical thinking with problem solving and data analytical skills, featuring in-depth training in quantitative methods and data science. for students who want to work at the intersection of data science and social sciences and provide effective solutions to the main challenges of society and business. The course is delivered over three years, with the opening three semesters at Bocconi in Milan and the following three at HEC in Paris.

At the end of the program, students will be awarded the Bachelor of Science in International Politics & Government from Bocconi University and the Bachelor of Arts in Data, Society & Organisations from HEC.

This course, which responds to the major challenges of the 21st century, is organized around an innovative theme that combines data science and human and social science

At the end of this program you will develop your skills in :

  • Participation in the development of company strategy
  • Supervision and animation of teams in project mode
  • Documentation, collection and processing of information
  • Carrying out an organizational and/or financial analysis
  • Management control, evaluation of tools and proposal of new methods
  • Establishment of a budgetary architecture

Finally, my son has been accepted to Bocconi for the bachelor in International Economics and Management.

It is his first choice... super happy.

Still waiting for LSE and the WBB World Bachelor, but this is end of April for decision and the price for the WBB is way way more expensive....
