Should i do an MBA or a Masters in Quantitative Finance?
I work as an AM equities execution trader for the last 2 years, came up from a tech background, 5.5 years total work experience after undergrad, same company through and through (bulge bracket) . I am also a CFA level 3 candidate and want to eventually become a portfolio manager at AM or a hedge fund. I work in a firm where promotions are harder to come by, given a strong hierarchical organisational structure that prioritises years in the seat over potential. Given that backdrop, I want to go for a MBA with a focus on quantitative maths/finance to eventually do portfolio management (open to start with equity research or macro strategy roles) What are my chances after a decent MBA? I am looking at Europe in particular, but it does appear that the bulk of hiring post MBA is in consulting and investment banking and lesser in the AM/HF space. Is there another approach I should be taking instead of the MBA - like a masters in quantitative finance? The only thing which is pulling me towards an MBA is that I am still covered if I want to switch industries in the future which a specialised quant finance masters doesn’t provide. Would you be able to recommend universities which fit the bill? So far i have looked at LBS, Insead, HEC, Imperial, LSE.
Thanks for the help in advance!
