When someone does not respond to a cold email and I want to follow up with them again after a week, should I just send the same email again or preface it by saying something like "I hope this email finds you well."
Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

Follow up with him every single day and say that you know that he is a busy man, but if you could just have 5 minutes of his time...
i usually do something like "dear x, i am following up with regards to my last e-mail..." then reiterate what i said in the last message. oh and i do it as a reply to the last e-mail i sent.

I was lucky enough to get a managing director to speak with me on the phone 2.5 weeks ago. During our conversation he mentioned his team might hire an intern. Thursday of last week I emailed him a follow-up and mentioned the internship and he told me he would talk more his team about it the next week (aka this week). I haven't heard from him and it's been over a week, and was wondering if it would be acceptable to email him something along the lines of:
"Hi XXXXX,
I know you had mentioned that you would be speaking with your colleagues about a possible internship for the summer over this last week, and I just wanted to see if you had discussed the possibility of hiring a student intern. Summer is approaching quickly and I was hoping to learn more about this opportunity while everything is still getting sorted out.
I really appreciate your willingness to talk with me, as well as this possible future opportunity.

First,
If you don't get a response within a half hour of posting something, especially in the middle of a work day... assume people are working, don't try to "bump it up".
Second,
Today is still part of the "next week" that he said. If you do end up sending out an email following up, do it on Monday as you'll have a better chance of it being seen than on a Friday.
You could also put something in there like "I don't mean to be a bother, but summer is approaching quickly..."

Yo WSOers. I have been cold calling quite a bit trying to secure a FT analyst position in NYC with some success. I was asked to send my resume etc. to a few different places, and seemed to have a decent vibe going with the MDs with which I spoke. I recently graduated with an undergrad degree in Finance.
My question to you guys is, does anyone have a technique or guideline for following up on cold calls? How long should you wait after initial contact? Should it be a straightforward 'hi, we spoke etc. etc. I'm calling to find out if you've had a chance to look over my resume?'....or something more beat around the bushy?
There is a lot of material out there on making initial contact via cold calling, but I think its critical to follow up the right way to max chances of an in person interview. Let me know what you guys have done.

Yes, but not immediately - he's probably busy. Don't pester him but do be persistent.

So I've been emailing boutiques for summer internships, and a small firm got back to me within a day asking me for a stock pitch. I replied and have gotten no response for a week. What would be a good way to phrase a follow up email when I've essentially got nothing to say apart from have you taken a look at my email?! Or do I take it as a big reject and just move on. Calling is probably not an option as the firm is located overseas.
If they have chosen to reject you, then following up won't hurt your chances (or lack thereof), and I also think following up politely would be a great idea. Esp since it is almost May.

Idk about everyone else but i think that is a pretty bad idea..you sound like you are begging. Why don't you just explain you are looking for an internship give a brif discription of what you are doing now and ask for a phone call becuase you beleive you could learn alot from them and are seeking advice/help/feedback.
if they like you they will help you..then you can ask about the internship after the convo or they may offer to interview you or whatever.
Well in my initial email I did exactly that but adding the part about a posible phone call to the follow up email sounds like a good idea

Re-state the "so that I can convince you of my qualifications." That part doesn't sound good. And don't follow up a few days later. Maybe a couple days later, but not a few days later.

Giving them two weeks is considered the norm.
The email isnt great.
I would lead with -
'I was hoping to discover whether you've had a moment to review my prior email. I would like to reiterate my interest within xxxxx and would be delighted to be provided with an opportunity to display my capabilities for the internship.
I anticipate hearing from you. '
Flows much better and doesnt make you look like you're begging for the role.

That's exactly what I think you should do. Get a meeting with him and sit him down in a room to sell yourself. Make yourself useful to him and just maybe they'll make an exception and hire a hardworking, unpaid intern.

Telephone call is possible, but it is long distance so I was thinking Skype would be smarter. Let me know what you think.
Uh, does distance affect phones? More 'formal', Skype just gives me the impression of using it to speak with family & friends.

Yes, follow up and politely ask why they aren't hiring, offer to work for free (if you're willing).
You say you've had a few replies so continue doing what you're doing, but personally, I wouldn't send out a cold email with my resume attached.

Some background: Non-target junior, did considerable informational interviews over the summer. I'm not following up with everybody via e-mail.
A quick question regarding follow ups: How personal can I be? If something came up during the conversation when we met, and the other person seemed to feel comfortable, is it okay to follow up with something similar in an email? I kept an Excel sheet of main things that the consultant talked about, including family, leisure etc. and plan to ask customized questions for each person that I met.
For example: I had met with a Senior Manager who had just come back from maternity leave. We spoke light-heartedly about her experience, she spending time with her newborn and other things that you talk about when somebody just has just had a baby...
Would it be alright for me to say something like this: "I hope you're not too busy and are getting to spend time with your one year old."
This thread is a little silly, I know. But I need your opinions to see how customized/personal I can be!

No, it's good to pepper those emails with a couple of personal references depending on how well you vibe with the person you meet.

Yes. Follow up. The person is most likely busy, you're not his top priority (fall interns in general most likely aren't anywhere near a top priority) and he probably just let it fall through the cracks. Think about networking like this: if they're not interested in you there's no harm in contacting them again, but if reaching out to them again gets you in front of them, you gain. Of course that's within reason-don't be a freak who emails/calls too much.
