Has anyone vacationed/lived in Iran?

I'm considering spending a few weeks in Iran, has anyone else been? Lots of culture there I hear.

From the (very) preliminary guides/posts that exist online, I've only gathered that it's a) feels safer than most US/European cities and b) is literally cash only (no cards whatsoever due to sanctions).

For those wondering if I'm out of my mind, I assure you I'm not. North America/Europe/Asia gets boring, fast. Any additional insight would be great. I'm a US citizen. Thanks.

I've traveled quite a bit (23 countries) and I wouldn't exactly say that Europe/Asia gets boring. Central America is interesting too as well as South America.

You didn't mention Africa and there are some cool places there that I'd rather go to over Iran. You have Australia as well (I'm in Australia now). Also, there's New Zealand, Indonesia, Fiji, Tahiti. I mean, if we are talking Middle East, I'd rather hit up Dubai.

You're just looking for Persian chicks that look like Kim Kardashian aren't you...

How's that treating you? I'm thinking of a trip.

Its been fun so far. I was planning on coming for longer as it takes forever for me to get here (I'm on the east coast) and I booked a one way ticket, but had to cut it short as I need to get back stateside next week.

I'm half-Australian, so I had some family I was thinking of visiting on the west coast (Perth, Geraldton), but since I cut the trip short, I just had time for Melbourne and Sydney. I'm in Melbourne now and visiting my Aunt in Sydney in a few days.

Melbourne has been pretty cool so far. I'm big on Poker, MMA, and Surfing and they have this 24/7 gym with good MMA equipment at a place called Dohertys here. Melbourne has the biggest casino in the southern hemisphere (Crown) and Bells Beach is one of the best breaks in the world (I surfed there yesterday and the day before). It was nice to check that one off the bucket list.

spent November-February in Peru/Bolivia/Argentina/Chile. one of the most epic trips of my life. saving Australia (and Oceania) for later, as so I have a reason to live.

already been to Dubai. but personally enjoyed Abu Dhabi more.

really want to go to Jordan/Egypt. But if I do, then Israel is a must.
HOWEVER, once you go to Israel, you're basically banned for life from entering Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Oman, and yes, Iran. and tbh I don't really care for Israel *note. I am neither Jewish nor Muslim

and no. I actually think Kardashian looks fake/average. more of a fan of Northern European girls.

after doing some more research, looks like Iran is a no.
now considering renting an AMG/M/RS car and roadtripping CA/AZ/NM/UT/CO.
more of a high speed (non German) driving trip than a culture trip.

Yeah, I haven't been to Jordan, but I had a great time in Egypt. The only thing about Egypt is you really have to bargain all the time. Sometimes you catch a cab and you have to negotiate the price when you don't even know where you are going. I heard this was the case before I went there, so I went a bit tan, grew out a scruffy beard, and threw a white shirt to wear there in the bottom of my bag for a week, so that it was real dirty. I kind of got by until I opened my mouth.

A lot of people go to Giza and rent camels to go around the pyramids. But, I looked for a horse and rented the fastest horse I could find and was doing laps around all the other tourists. Good times.

I hired a driver for relatively cheap and we went to Sharm-el-Sheik and Dahab as well as Mt. Sinai. I can't tell you how many times I smoked hookah with that guy. We smoked hookah at almost every stop, with hot tea in 100 degree temperatures. The scuba diving in the Red Sea is great and I went in Dahab (Sharm-el-Sheik is good too). Of course, everyone wanted to smoke hookah before diving and I thought that was a bit odd, but I was like sure, whatever. That instance, someone broke out this really strong shisha and I still felt a bit ... different ... when scuba diving, but it was fun.

The red sea is rated one of the 7 wonders of the underwater world. http://www2.padi.com/blog/2013/05/27/seven-wonders-of-the-underwater-wo…

"3. Northern Red Sea, Africa Known as the “underwater garden of Eden,” scuba divers who explore the Northern Red Sea are rewarded with a submarine paradise full of 1,000 different kinds of fish, more than 1,000 species of invertebrates and about 400 types of corals."

Of course we get to Mt. Sinai and the driver tries to negotiate and says 'you pay me double or I leave you here!'. I only paid him half the money at the time and I was like, how about I don't give you the other half and you get nothing! We would play these games every couple hours. It was a bit annoying, but had a good time there.

If you're going to the Middle East and it's one of your first times (assuming you've seen the UAE) then I would suggest going to Israel, Oman or Jordan. All of these are quite safe and they are truly beautiful countries. Amman in Jordan is a gem and one of their main attractions is the ancient city of Petra - worth checking about. Tel-Aviv is also incredibly beautiful and so is Muscat in Oman - lots of old forts and castles to visit. Oh, and in all these places the food is incredible (and this is coming from an Italian).

Hi, dear! To tell the truth, I have not been there by myself but my friend has and I have heard a lot of positive impressions from him about Iran!

Hi, dear! I have just seen your question about theresume editing service and have decided to answer it, because some time ago I had almost the same issue and I did not know where to find the answers.

Get your facts first, then you can distort them as you please.

Yeah but governments often over react to where to travel. Even the UK has a database of countries to travel too based on how dangerous they are. Here is their map of Colombia (https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/colombia) but as you can see it depends on which part of the country you go to and many tourists still travel there. Iran seems to be 80% safe according to the UK government (https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/iran) it's just the US that shits their pants.

Having a binary approach (go or not go) to travel is for the most part not applicable to many countries. Italy is safe as hell but I guarantee if you visit certain parts around Naples or in the Southern Regions you're fucked.
