How did you find WSO?
Just curious as to how other people came across this site and if and how it changed you. Personally I saw an interview with Jamie Dimon where he said that he hadn't paid attention to WSO in a while, so I decided to see what WSO meant and now I'm here.
I wanted to get into banking. When you think you want to do banking, you don't mean getting verbally assaulted at a suburban branch. The advice I was seeking for my job applications naturally led me to this forum.
Still have to find that sweet big break, but I am still here. Lots to learn and the community beats reddit and most other fora.
initially good advice, but then more for the jokes.
I googled Pinpoint Partners and you guys saved me from handing my CV to these idiots.
Googled "Is an accounting major worth it?" and found this place. After seeing posts by a certain Accounting Major I learned it's never worth it.
Did a google search for interview advice while recruiting for IB SA roles and saw a bunch of threads from this site in the search results
A friend (who is now at an MBA business schools">M7 after going MS/GS -> PE partly because of this site) introduced me during undergrad and the rest is history.
i asked myself this very question a few days ago. can't remember how i landed on this platform but i am glad i did.
I'm in the same boat. Not really sure how I ended up here ... but I'm glad I did!!!
Flirted with a preftigious wall street career push at one point. Ultimately stuck with real estate.
Well, seeing as I'm old - been a member for 11 years, I found it back when it was called IBankingOasis. I don't remember what I was trying to look into at the time, but I came across it and started answering questions about my area of expertise at the time (asset management), and I actually remember when Patrick PM'd me asking if I'd certify my account. I was surprisingly hesitant to do so, but did anyway and the rest is history. So, looking back 11+ years ago, we're talking 2007/2008, a lot of my stuff at the time was focusing on what was happening during the financial crisis and it's just kind of changed from there and adapted as time has grown.
Been around for about 7 years. I remember being really stoned sophomore year and running through all of the finance movie classics thinking to myself, "I have to get my fucking shit together". I remember finding WSO and just having my mind blown by some of the old school users. I look forward to continued growth in my career and giving back to the WSO community that gave so much to me.
I think I was either looking for PWM/family office data or possibly league table information.

I was under a car performing work as a mechanic when I was visited by the arch angel Gabriel. He informed me that there was a holy war starting and demons were amongst us already performing all manner of evil acts. He told me I would be given three weapons to help me as I was to destroy those demons.
Oh wait, thats from the movie Frailty.
First found out about this site 2 years ago when I was invited to an interview for a M&A/Corporate Finance intern position with a Big 4. I blindly applied without knowing what the heck M&A/investment banking was and luckily got in. I crammed materials here days and night. The site and users provided me much help, so I decided to stay. Still making a habit to check WSO for 5-10 min before work every morning.
Googling ‘Goldman job tips’
Note: I have never had an application accepted by GS.
I found it while looking for IB resume tips. I ended up trashing my resume and using the template from here, while taking some suggestions from M&I.
had an identity crisis years ago and wanted to learn more about a potential move, lurked for a while under a different acct and then finally joined when I thought I could contribute something
...you've come a long way and are now near immortal in WSO lore: https://www.wallstreetoasis.com/polls/who-is-the-2018-wso-member-of-the…
Some amazing nominees this year...good luck to all!
I was talking with a senior at my school who was explaining to me the difference between investment banking and private equity, and how investment banking is somewhat of a misnomer.
I remember writing down to check out "the Wall Street Oasis website" in my notes. One of the first things I tried to figure out is what MD, BB, and EBITDA stood for.
I absolutely would not be where I am today if Patrick hadn't started WSO, thank you WallStreetOasis.com
thanks for joining and sticking around!
I dont know, it kept popping up. But I am so thankful & happy it did. Even though im still nowhere with my career, coming from a non-target I was able to see a whole new world through this forum. Especially the WhatsApp groups. It's crazy with how many good people I've surrounded myself with over the past two years. Thank you everyone!
Learned about it from a second year in my MBA program. Glad I did, this site as been the source of great advice and a riot
