investment financial modeling

I am seeking some advice as to the software to use for developing a financial model that mirror those of investment banks to determine risk ratings and to make decisions for alternative financing of sustainable energy projects, essentially a risk rating tool. While normally I would approach this perhaps using Excel, I am wondering if another software platform may be better in terms of user interface/user friendly that would offer default assumptions but also allow the user to input other non-default assumptions. There may be multiple users of the tool, implying the need to access the tool perhaps as a web-based tool that may be hosted in the cloud and the tool could generate output reports in Excel. Any guidance you provide is greatly appreciated.
