Is Private Equity Operations Analyst considered a shit job?
Is it?
A fucker on these forms told me today, that I had a back office job and was lying about being in Private Equity. He said that a job in operations does not count as being in private equity.
Is that correct? Could I use this job to maybe get a better job in IB or PE at a better firm? I am teaching myself all about business models, financial statements, etc. but I wonder if I can move up?
Thank you all so much
No, everyone needs to start somewhere. The thing about this forum, they're a lot of "woe-is-me" people as GreenspanAndHam claims. Getting a FO roles is literally being in the top .1% of your school (esp elite ones with OCR). People think just because you post here, learn what IB is and read about success stories you're special and you will get a FO roles therefore highschool students here sham the BO. At the end of the day you went to a non-target (not talking to you JoblessJoe) and no one sees the amount of hard work you put in researching. So no it's not a shit job, BC 99% of people cant get in the FO so this is a great start for you JoblessJoe
Schlongberg Sachs Oh ok thanks a lot for that. But its a BO role, but ok thanks for that info
Yes it is a back office role but that's not bad. This forum plants this seed in everyone's mind that just because you're here doing your due diligence you'll be on your way to make 150k in Manhattan therefore back office is the soul sucking hell.
Look at it this way, you're making $50k with no experience in a low cost area and getting the experience you need to get into a top MBA.
Smile, you're on you way to a great future. Many kids get out of college unemployed, working at PetSmart/Walmart, etc.
Schlongberg just posted a topic about trying to bribe Georgetown with $12k to get in yet is dishing out career advice here? I smell a troll....
It's not bribery its a donation that's tax deductible. I'm not trolling, I know many friends who have just graduated college who wanted IB, they were networking so much and had top notch awards and GPAs and couldn't make it. People need to understand that the BO isn't bad AT ALL, getting into the FO is so fucking hard you shouldn't disregard getting some good experience in the BO.
Thanks a lot, made me feel a lot better. I am thinking about an MBA. I got shit GPA but can really get a good GMAT. Thanks a lot once again, I think if I work hard, I can succeed.
You can for sure. A high GMAT shows intellect, work experience will show you were able to get into Private Equity with an unrelated and low GPA (initiative)
Schlongberg Sachs Ok thank you so much. I'll be 29 when I start though, if I apply next cycle. So IDK because I know advanced age makes everything harder. It'll be harder to get a job as well.
