What are the best value shirts for banking? Brooks brothers are great, but very expensive (I need to buy a lot to start an internship this summer). Macy's are all merged sleeves (ex. 32/33) and as with most merged sleeves, they don't fit me well.
Can anyone comment on a good place to find shirts w/o merged sleeves for a price lower than Brooks Brothers.

Go for Brooks Brothers man. Best value because when they rip at the elbows, you can get them replaced for free.

Brooks is a good value. 3 non-irons for $219 is quite solid. Heck, sign up for a BrooksCard and make a bulk purchase to get the discount (then pay off the card ASAP). I did it with a suit, blazer, and some shirts, saved decent money.
You can get a better suit for much cheaper thru Indochino's. (379-399). Shirts are around the same price. 3 for 229.
You can get 4 shirts for 200 on from Charles Tyrwhitt (ctshirts.com) and 2 ties for 80.

Brooks is great, but personally, I'm starting to like ctshirts.com. Better prices and I think that Brooks is becoming too contemporary. When I'm walking down the street downtown, I can almost tell without flipping the tie over that another guy is wearing a Brooks tie or shirt. To me, I'd rather be more original than that. I think Brooks has become too recognizable. I mean they've been doing the repp tie since the 20's.

Kenneth Cole. Not a name that you think of when you think of dress shirts, but is stylish, durable, and costs less than Brooks Brothers. Can be purchased online or at Macy's.
Those wrinkle free shirts from JCP are quite cheap too. Honestly, the brand doesn't matter that much- it's more about how well they fit and it's not too expensive to get cheap shirts tailored well.
LOL, I'm wearing one of those cheap JCP shirts right now, because all of my Kenneth Cole shirts are waiting to be ironed. And you're right, these shirts fit surprisingly well, as long as you have the right measurements.

I've seen Brooks Brothers shirts for $40 at Nordstrom Rack. Most of my shirts are Charles Tyrwhitt. They almost always have a 4 for $200 deal going on, as well as heavy discounts on random shirts in their collection. I just bought a few CT shirts last night for $30-$40 each. They are nice enough that I keep buying more and cheap enough that I don't sweat it if I somehow ruin one.
Just got 3 CT shirts for ~$85 from their clearance section. I had to peruse a bunch of different ones to find the right dimensions, fit, and collar type.
1.) Groupon, $100 Charles Tyrwhitt Credit for $50. 2.) Buy three shirt+tie combos for $120= $100 Groupon credit ($50) + $20 cash=$70. Just be careful to go with button cuffs rather than french cuffs. 3.) 3 shirts + 3 ties for $70? Profit.

You don't have to break the bank to be a good intern. Buddy of mine did an off-season internship at MS FIG this fall and is going to BX PE this summer for SA and he gets all his shirts at Uniqlo. No one cares about labels. Just make sure it fits, looks good, but most importantly, work as hard as you can to be the best performing SA in the whole damn place. Charles Tyrwhitt has a pretty good bang for your buck factor, btw

Personally, I like CT shirts and have recently had good luck with John Varvatos shirts (discounted from nordstroms). The JV ones are cut much slimmer than most dress shirts so they are great if you are athletic. On sale they were $30. Honestly if you are wearing $100+ shirts no one can tell a $20 shirt from $80 shirt so swing over to a Tj Maxx or marshals and buy 10 shirts for $20 each and you will be set.
IP, any comment on how the Charles Tyrwhitt slim fits are cut in relation to BB slim fit?
Tyrwhitt slim fit is much better than anything I've gotten from Eagle, Tasso Elba, even Joseph Abboud. (Yes, you can do Abboud for $40/shirt if you find the right sale.). I am a size 40 chest, size 32 waist, I would like to think I have a fairly athletic build. That said, reviews on fatwallet.com suggest that BB has an even better fit.
After I make my seventh million, I'll shop at Brooks Brothers. For now, I'm content with Mens Wearhouse, Macy's, and CTshirts.com

Unless you are 300 lbs, go with a mix of Banana Republic and Nordstrom shirts. High quality and each is only $40-$60.
I'd agree with Nordstrom shirts, but I've had bad experiences with Banana dress shirts. The Banana dress shirts fit great, but their non-irons are shit (don't come out of dryer unwrinkled, wrinkle easily during the day). If you want to pick up normal shirts that you plan to drop off at cleaners, then Banana is a good option.
hugh and crye, cheap shirts and near bespoke as you can get. if you want really cheap, H&M have well fitting shirts for nothing. if you really have a particular or "aesthetic" tastes, look at mrporter.com or parkandbond.com. Can be expensive (charvet, turnbull and asser, alex mcqueen), but you can find great sshirts on sale that are really nice (i got a 150 dollar shirt, Hentsch man, for 40$).

Ledbury. Great shirts. In terms of quality it is several steps above those of Brooks Brothers and CT.
agree ledbury is great. but at 130 a shirt it's really not worth it at the analyst level. CT at ~ 40-50 a shirt is more than nice for an analyst trying to save/get by on a tight budget but still look boss.
Charles Tyrwhitt or Brooks Brothers. Only bad experience with CT is had a sleeve tear on one, BB is a little better quality, but a little expensive if you don't catch the sales. CT slim fit is closer to a BB extra slim.

I do know that Brooks Brothers usually has a big sale on Black Friday at midnight at least when you can get all men's non-iron shirts for $25.00, the nice thing is that this includes all sizes and even includes the luxury cuts (the ones with the purple labeling on the tag, usually go for $120+). I got myself four or five the last time I went; it's great because they don't advertise which ones are luxury cuts so they're pretty easy to grab. I know they've got some other sales going on and obviously you don't want to wait until Black Friday, but it's something to remember when Thanksgiving rolls around if you need some new shirts.
Tbh, unless you're a fat American (maybe you are), anything you get off the rack will fit like absolute shit. Go M2M.

If you're not in a rush to buy it, your best bet is too keep an eye out for deals at department stores (Dillard's, Macy's, Belk's). From time to time they have great deals on some really nice brands.
Also, and I'm being mostly serious about this, if you live in an area with a lot of wealthy people, especially lots of wealthy old people, they tend to have consignment shops and what not (not Goodwill) but you'll be surprised what kinds of very expensive clothing you can find at these places. If you're really cash-strapped, you could always look there. I don't go there anymore but when I was in high school I found a $600 suit at one near me for $15... not bad as long as you don't really mind wearing someone else's clothes, which I don't.
I mean this in a non-offensive way but: don't dress like an Italian mafia member. Don't dress in a way that's "greasy," if you know what I mean. Don't wear ties with non-symmetric patterns on them like flowers, don't wear metallic or shiny shirts or ties, etc. Those kind of clothes look awful to begin with, but people on wall street also just don't dress like that. Just don't wear anything that could be considered gaudy like that, or avant-garde. Just stick with solid patterns, nothing too "European" or flashy, or like a Sopranos family member dresses.
Completely agree with this. I was just at M and 80% of the pants in the menswear section were slim-fit crotch-squeezing Express trash you can't even move in. Brooks Bros 4 life.

One thing that I would like to add is to make sure you guys/girls get lighter fabric dress shirts. During the summer the subway in NYC is like a sauna (Times Square, Chambers street, and the one across from the Barclays building are the worst). You don't want to come home and be drenched in sweat, even worse have an attractive female see you sweating like a pig.

Nordstrom's house brand (Calibrate) makes slim fit shirts that fit me very well. I've always been pretty skinny, but these shirts actually fit me well, after having tried a number of different supposedly slim fit brands.
Note that they also make trim fit, which is not the same thing, as it is somewhere in between slim and classic fit.
Prices are usually around $60 a shirt, which is pretty expensive, but during Nordstrom's sales I've gotten them for ~$20.
