Where were you when you found out you got the offer?

Hey everyone, I was wondering where were you when you got the call or email saying you got an offer for a job? Did you find out when you were eating dinner, right after you got on the subway to leave the interview, or right there and then during the interview?

Share your stories of where you were when you finally got that job offer.

SA Offer: I was literally at the times square stop on the 1 train, and by the grace of God the call came through. Because it wouldn't have at any other station. The doors were closing and I stuck my arm through them while simultaneously picking up my cell.

FT Offer: In my apartment heavily stressing out a week after 3 superdays and radio silence. Got the call from my top choice...needless to say I rejoiced. The next day received my 2nd choice offer

At home one morning, I had just finished watching one of the last episodes of Mad Men. He picks up a hitchhiker and David Bowie's Space Oddity began playing in the background. Naturally I wanted to hear the whole song so I pop it on itunes, and right when I do I get the call. I still get the same euphoric feeling whenever I listen to that song.

Right when I was boarding the train to go back to my University town from London the MD called me, yelled out loud and the entire carriage turned around but I didn't care, I was on cloud 9

For my internship, I was in my living room at college. For my FT position, I found out in the interview. I walked out, called my mom who I was supposed to meet for coffee after my interview, and just said "mom, I think I just got a job??". I got the call from HR a few hours later.

"Sil"

I stayed up all night playing videos games and was about to go to bed at 10AM when my current MD called to make me an offer.

Hah, which game? Age yourself

Right before an important test. Needless to say I did not do well haha

I am a blogging intern at Wall Street Oasis. Feel free to follow me to see my weekly posts.

Was in the mountains on the ski hill. Mid way through a run I feel my phone vibrate. Know I needed to pick it up because I had the interview the day before and knew they would call the next day.

Luckily it wasn't too cold and my reception was good enough.

Was in a three hour lecture, HR emailed me asking if I had a minute and I immediately replied and stepped out of class. Went back in and needless to say, didn't jot another note down :)

Too long ago to recall.

I did call two summer intern candidates earlier today to tell them their offer letters were going out today. Both seemed happy. I forgot to ask where they were.

Those who can, do. Those who can't, post threads about how to do it on WSO.

SA: A few hours after my superday. I was at a Five Guys by myself reflecting on my interviews and noticed that I had a missed call after getting off the phone with my parents. It was one of the MDs who interviewed me that morning with the offer. Oddly enough I thought that I did relatively poorly in that particular interview although the interviewer thought we really "connected."

FT: During the last week of my internship - got called into a conference room by the group head who made me the offer.

Sitting at my old job that I had given up on months beforehand. After multiple phone calls, emails, coffees, gifts, and hand written letters, I ended up getting an offer from a family office that I cold applied to. Regardless of, I was ecstatic and hit the bars immediately. Start date wasn't for 2 months, aka 2 months of paid vacation at my current position, and I couldn't be happier now. Already setting my sites on my next move.

I was sitting in front of the MD- he extended the offer on the spot and I was taking a sip of water as he was collecting his thoughts and the conversation was paused. I choked and coughed several times and he just chuckled and handed me a napkin.

After about two months after an early interview they were still deciding, so I sent the MD an email saying I have to make decisions by weeks end and wanted to know if they were still interested. Later that day I was working on a paper and received an email simply saying "Call me when you can."

With a pounding heart I called, and after a good 2 minutes of painful and eager small talk found out I received the offer.

I was about to go into a meeting with my boss, to discuss moving into another group within my company. My boss was running late and I was playing on my phone when I got a random call. Picking it up, three happy voices on the other end congratulated me on my offer.

I walked into my meeting with my boss with a huge smile, where he informed that I wouldn't get to transfer groups after all at my firm. No matter -- the offer I'd just received was for that exact group.

I'll add:

SA: I was sitting in class more so focused on seeing which other companies to cold call for roles. Then I see I have a call from a firm I interviewed with the previous week asking if I would be interested in taking there offer. I was quite ecstatic but then realized I need to reach out to the other firm (that was my first choice) about my updated situation. I called them and the VP said thanks for calling and that he was drafting my offer letter to send to them. I was almost over the moon but thought it too good to be true. But come that night I was studying for test, I see the offer letter email and flip with joy (recruited like crazy for a SA role and was extremely relived to get one just a few weeks shy of semester ending). Needless to say, I accepted the offer the next day (which is also funny given I had a a different final round interview lined up a few days after for role that I basically could not pursue.

FT: Was sitting at work the Monday after Friday super-day (Offy-cycle IB role for starting Analyst class that year). I was quite bummed that I thought I had to start back up my process for the FT IB role I had been searching for the past few years at that time. Then I see a call come in and I rush out to lobby to take. It was the best feeling in the world (since it was the role I wanted in the city I wanted) and I basically had the time of my life from that moment all the way through when the IB role started...

1st Job Offer: I was unemployed 2 months after graduation living with my parents after having a number of opportunities fall through for me. I felt horrible and didn't have many options (or money) left. Then I got a first round interview from a random job I applied to online on Monday, got invited to a superday Wednesday and thought it went well, but I wasn't expecting much given my recent job search experiences. I sat down at a poker game my dad plays in weekly and somebody wished him a happy birthday and I realized per usual I had forgotten what day it was. He asked me if there were any recent updates to my search and I told him a little bit about the job with some reserved optimism. A few hands later I received a call from HR and went outside to take it, I told him it was probably a random update, then came back in and told everybody I got the offer. We got really drunk that night.

2nd Job Offer: Much more subdued. I had a superday the day before and got an email from HR asking to set up a follow up call. I was expecting the offer and they went ahead and offered it on the call.

Hey everyone, I was wondering where were you when you got the call or email saying you got an offer for a job?

Summer analyst: driving home from the superday (final superday). Pulled to the side of this rural road and prayed the connection didn't give out.

Full time: randomly walking down the hall at school. Saw the area code and knew immediately that I got it.

Post-MBA: got an email asking to set up a call the Monday after I interviewed. Timing was perfect because I had an exploding offer that week.

SA: day before leaving for spring break in mexico got the call after being on a waitlist for over a month. needless to say i dont remember being in mexico at all but it was a great time.

FT: exit interview from internship, received offer and accepted on the spot. pretty stoked to get back to NYC this summer

For my first choice offer, while I was at work during my Student Job. My second choice offer, I met the analysts I interviewed in a Club and they approached me at the bar and told me I will receive the offer tomorrow. Nevertheless, I told them on spot that I will most probably reject it, as I already received the other offer earlier that day.

At LaGuardia waiting for my flight.

On an Uber going towards JFK.

Both after SuperDays.

My banking internship offer, I had a voicemail when I landed from my connecting flight, halfway home. I landed back in my city at ~1am that night, knew I was taking that offer, and had an 8am superday with a lesser bank the next morning....that was a tough one to get motivated for.

My PE offer came in via phone on a Sunday afternoon following a Saturday superday. I was, naturally, at work.

I was doing homework in the library, stepped into the stairwell to call the VP back. I heard the words "we'd like to extend you an offer..." and fell to my knees a la Roger Federer. Or like Drama:

Maximum effort.

In my hotel bed, after getting released from the hospital for food poisoning that I received during a superday dinner. I was so excited that I just went back to bed because I had no energy haha

...

Stepped out of class on a Monday to take the call. Had been on-site Friday to interview-- thought I had done well in some parts but not well in others, and basically was worried sick the whole weekend.

The partner starts off the call with some idle chit-chat and after a minute, I hear this heavy sigh followed by "well, I guess we should cut to the chase..."

My stomach dropped. This was a firm I had been really excited about for a long time, and while I had other options, I had a lot invested in this one.

He continues, "we really liked meeting you, and we had a lot of great candidates this year..."

One hand on the phone, one hand in my hair, head down. Feeling like I might throw up.

"...so we'd be honored if you'd join us this summer!"

Shot up out of my seat, eyes wide, silently mouthed "WHAT THE F***, NO WAY" and finished up the call. Didn't go back to class.

Kandahar, Afghanistan. After doing 4 interviews via phone/skype, I got an e-mail to call in a few days later. Got a job offer at 1 am in a combat zone.

FT: I had just come out of a school club event and had my phone on airplane. I turned it on to find a missed call and email from the MD I interviewed with just yesterday, at my first choice firm. Thought maybe he wanted more info lol. He gave the good news and the first coherent sentence out of my mouth was - "Are you saying I received an offer?" I could barely believe it. The MD chuckled in confirmation. Asked that again at the end of the call. Then I quickly phoned my best friends and family. Best afternoon ever.

Most of my full time job offers have come when I was in the car, usually as I'm just about to leave somewhere or just arrived, meaning I just hang out in a parking garage for a bit longer.

Yesterday, I got a summer offer and I was standing in my underwear in my kitchen having just put some baked ziti into the oven.
