Senior applying for 09 SA?

I don't want to get into details, but I made some bad choices and ended up with no offer for next year. I go to a top school and interned in a mezz fund. I want to apply for summer internships again but feel embarrassed seeing all the BBs send invites out to the 2009 class. I'm a senior and don't feel I really belong to these events. If I don't go, I might not get an interview.

I'm just a big mess right now. and thanks, but I don't really want to talk about how I fuckked up so bad, just want to see if there is anything I should look out for when I apply again

So are you graduating this year? And looking for a summer position, and ideally FT after that?

or

Are are you delaying graduation, getting a SA position, going back to school, then graduating later?

If you are delaying your graduation you are not really a senior (as far as the bank/employer is concerned) so it changes things in regards to the internship. They will view you a long the lines of a junior who will be graduating early, I would imagine that you will have a good chance of getting a SA position.

But...

Have you given up all hope for a FT offer? Yes, most banks, and all BB banks are done recruiting, but there are still smaller banks out there. You will need to be careful that you check out the places before joining to make sure that they are legit. I just took a look at my colleges recruiting website and there are postings from some smaller banks for full-time hires, I then looked at some of their websites and a few looked like good spots, a number of ex-Goldman/Merill/Lehman listed on their site. If I were in your shoes I would rather look for a FT job at a decent albeit smaller shop, than delaying my life for a "chance" at a better bank. Moving laterally amongst ibanks, although sometimes tough (when coming from a less prestigious bank) isn't all that hard. That is the route I would prefer to take, delaying graduation for a chance at an interview, then the chance the you get the job, then the chance that you get a FT offer leaves too much up in the air. Now if you cant get an offer anywhere then trying for SA is probably your best bet, but I wouldn't give up just yet.

mrbellaiche I made some bad decisions, said some things I should not have that came back to bite me, and lets just say I am hoping I did not burn my bridges there forever

How do I tell people that I am graduating later, should I list that in my resume somewhere?

and Patrick - I think that makes a lot of sense, I'm going to try to look around for full time, but I am afraid the good smaller banks have finished hiring. It seems like whatever I end up with now will be shitty. man I wish didnt fuck up so bad this year

Sorry to Hi-Jack, but what if rather than staying for an extra semester, one chose to do non-profit work for the year after sr. year. Would it be ok to apply for an SA position in that case so you don't have to look for a job while you are volunteering?

i know some banks treat teach for america as a "target" for SA recruiting, and/or hold spots for FT employment.

not sure how other work of that nature is viewed - anyone?
