Early career dilemma

So I have recently began my first job as an Investment analyst at an Asset Owner in London. Where I work, the team isn’t huge but we do manage a lot of money and very risk on.

Here the emphasis is on manager selection. Pressuring managers on ESG and finding strategies which suit our mandate. What is great is that you meet loads of people from investments banks and other asset managers, so it’s great for networking. Furthermore, because the team is small, you learn a lot about different asset classes, portfolio construction etc. However, i feel that other than what I have mentioned you do not pick up any useful skills for the industry e.g. financial modelling or presenting

The dilemma comes in because I recently got offered an audit graduate scheme role with a Big 4 firm. I am considering taking it - I know it will be boring, but I feel that it will help me get to where I want to be. Having a structured graduate training and having a widely recognised firm on your CV is always helpful. One drawback is that this role is not in London, so the regular coffee chats you can have in the city with people from various backgrounds become harder.

Anyway, I always wanted to go down the route of security research. I love research with a passion as it empowers you to be as creative but also very deep-thinking and analytical. I know many research analysts are hired after passing ACA exams from the Big 4.
Other random facts that may or may not be useful are:

have CFA level I in Nov.

Went to a non-target Uni although still a Russell Group.

What do you guys think? Is there anything else I should look into. Should stay or leave? Would love to know your opinions.

I would stick to what you have. The network you currently have is already really good and I feel that anyone can learn the technicals required for AM but not many can do the skills that you have learned in terms of portfolio management and correlation between asset classes. Maybe try developing a solid relationship with one of the PM you network with and demonstrate genuine interest on the skillsets required for an analyst role at an AM firm or HF. The PM would probably refer u to someone or take u in if he/she really likes u.
