HF professionals: How do you list investments on your resume?

What is your preferred format for investments on your resume as an experienced HF professional? What restrictions do you have regarding proprietary information?

I'm evaluating different approaches while planning for possible lateral opportunities and I'm interested in hearing everyone's perspectives.

Trying to find a good balance between being descriptive on my resume while also making it easy for an audience to skim.

Below are some examples of what I've been thinking of. Suggestions?

Sample 1. Grouping by Coverage

Recent Investments

  • Opportunistic Coverage etc...
  1. Investment thesis here...
  • Systematic Coverage etc...

Sample 2. Grouping by Process

Sample 3. Grouping by PM, pod, or fund (for a functional resume layout)

Recent Investments

  • Long/short etc...
  1. Investment thesis here...
  • Event-driven etc...

Sample 4. Not grouping them (no multiple levels of bullets and content)

  2. etc...

Following this, very interested in hearing what the other folks think.

Obviously depends on your coverage and strategy but let's say you are doing tech/consumer or stat/merger arbs, I'd actually believe that a short concise summary of your positions/events and what you analysed would be sufficient. As a starting point, I think a lot of steps you take to study a stock/event would be the similar before it diverges based on some specifics of the situation. I think its challenging being able to put these details succinctly enough in a CV for the point to be put across well. I'd very much prefer to do the bulk of the discussion on my thesis verbally and in-person.

Could be completely off-tangent here and will be happy to be corrected.

Fair points, this in preparation for a PE role so it probably isn't a suitably inclusive approach since I'm essentially modifying the standard WSO PE template. Then again if you've had a number of personally defining investments I think there is utility in bringing them to the forefront for lateral applications. Admittedly this utility does diminish over time.

I suspect a PE firm would care most about your ability to manage a deal process than about specific ideas at a HF. In 99% of the cases, you won't be sourcing a PE deal but just analyzing something a banker brings to your table and managing the diligence/deal process around it, inckuding banks, lawyers, etc.

If I were you I would focus on showing you have those skills/similar experience than on how well you researched your AMZN idea.

Hi MMPM, thanks for your input, really appreciate it.

Would you mind elaborating on what you think is good to have in a CV for a junior in a HF? It would appear to me that simply listing investment universe or strategy all but gives you 2-3 bullets. Curious to hear what else is good to have / would tick the right boxes for a hiring PM.

Very new to this space, no one I'm close to is in this space and have not really seen any sample CVs that could give me any idea. Grateful if you could kindly share your two cents here.
