Are Ops role worth it ?

Are operation roles worth it to transition into front / middle office revenue generating roles or would they be a waste of time ?

Roles such as trade support within FX / equities etc to transition into front / middle office trading or sales roles?

I worked in trading support and it was hell. The work was super repetitive and I worked with a ton of old people with no ambition and little intelligence for the most part. You have no upward mobility and are looked down upon by everyone not in operations . I am telling you the work uses near 0 brain power you will not feel fulfilled in any way do not do it. I only got out because I started an MBA and on my resume instead of Trading Support Associate I simply put my title as associate on my resume and stretched the truth on most my responsibilities .

I managed to go from ops to FO but I would recommend against it. The hot labor market really helped me as normally this move rarely happens at my firm. The work in ops is mind numbing and generally there is little if any professional development. Most of your peers are content with their roles and are not looking for more. It was very much a do your job and leave at 5 environment where going above and beyond was never rewarded. It also takes time to make the move I spent 1.5 years in that role. Overall, I would only take an ops job to try and make the move if you have no other prospects.
