Barclays Sophomore Springboard Event
Hey all, I'm just starting a thread to discuss the Barclays Sophomore Springboard program.
I applied for it online on February 26th, and had a phone interview on Monday, the 20th.
Has anyone been officially invited?
Nope, but my interviewer asked for available dates all the way till Wednesday, so I'm guessing it'll take till then at least for invites to be released.
Have you done the phone interview yet, or are you doing yours between Monday-Wednesday this week as well?
I interviewed on Thursday and have not heard back.
What type of questions were asked?
Pretty routine banking phone screen with a strong emphasis on fit.
why ib, what's your resume, what interests you about banking, no technical
Do you think that I am not invited if I have not received an interview email yet?
i just had my interview, waiting to hear back. does anybody know if it actually leads to a job offer after the program?i know that you are given a mentor but is that helpful for recruitment?
Is it for the female event?
Just had my interview as well, I don't think it gets you any guarantees for an interview or job placement after, but I think the assigned mentor could be really helpful during the recruiting season.
Also, the interviewer told me that I should hear back from them in the last week of March.
What kind of questions did you get in your interview?
Nothing too crazy; it was all behavioral. Why Barclays, why Investment Banking, etc.
Hey all,
Just did the phone interview and it went pretty well. Do you know if they compensate for travel to NY?
Are you guys referring to the female event or ethnically diverse one?
anyone hear back?
I'm referring to the diversity event. I haven't hear back yet!
Didn't get an invite yet but luckily got into Lazard's.
For women's or ethnically diverse?
.
For minorities
Anyone get an offer for the Diversity event?
No, but was told decisions coming this week. Hopefully we get it.
Anyone hear back for female sophomore springboard?
not yet, was told by the person who interviewed me last week to hear within the next two weeks!
Have you heard back for female event?
just got invited to the sophomore springboard program
me too!
is it for diverse candidates, right? not females?
Does anyone know if invitations are all sent out at once?
insert massive panic amongst those of us who haven't received an invitation yet
In all seriousness, hopefully we'll hear back by the end of the day. There didn't seem to be an automated system inviting us for the phone screens, so someone might be manually sending the official invites.
gurdyandtheweyes did your invite seem like an automated response, or did it seem like it was from an HR person?
it did seem like an automated response, but could it be possible that they're doing it by division? i interviewed with a trader while other people i know interviewed with bankers and were asked about that
The Barclays Springboard seems to have given most people who applied an interview, which was only 15 min long/chill/fit-based. Probably even more selective BC of that imo.
I interviewed around the 3/22, but I was invited to interview that day. I agree with @zsdvnm1" it seems like they're doing them manually. I'd expect everyone to hear back by Friday or Monday
Has anyone been emailed to get rejected?
Do ya'll think this event helps with recruiting in the fall? I know they offer a mentor, but can anyone speak about the mentor-mentee relationship and how they're paired? I was accepted to the program for females but I didn't have a phone interview.
Do u mean u got accepted just by applying and without phone interview? Wow
Wow, I'm really bummed. I really thought my interview went well but I haven't heard back.
Has anyone else been offered an invite for the *Ethnically diverse event?
Yep, most of my friends got the invites today morning. Those of us who haven't heard back are most likely rejected. I thought my interview went really well too, so not sure what went wrong :/
Was the email sent to both diverse and female students since there are two events?
For me, it was the sophomore springboard event.
If we don't get selected for the program, would they email us with a rejection or just leave us wondering?
Will probably email us tomorrow/by the end of the week, wouldn't be surprised if they never got back either tbh.
did your friends get their invites at the same time through automated emails or was it at different times?
Well shit.
Hey guys, don't get too down on your luck if you didn't get an invite. I didn't either, and I figure that if you devote a few hours to it every week, there's no reason why you can't find a mentor at 10 banks between now and recruiting season this Fall. Reach out to alumni, schedule phone calls with them to indicate your interest, and then plan your own networking trip over the summer to meet them all for coffee in the span of 2-3 days. If you're nice and genuine about it, I don't see why at least 2-3 of them wouldn't give you a solid referral during recruitment.
These programs act as a screener, so not getting an invite basically means that you weren't good enough -- that's dejecting. Of course, with networking and whatnot it is not impossible to secure a first-round.
While that may be true to a certain extent, you're certainly not blacklisted from Barclays for life or anything. You have 6 months until real SA 2018 recruiting starts, with an entire summer to gain experience and build up your resume. Think hard about your biggest weaknesses, fix them, and find an internship for this summer that will make you a more competitive candidate during recruitment.
Those who got an invitation for this event probably are probably better candidates than you are right now. That doesn't mean they will be in 6 months, and the fact that they got into this event may give them the idea that they can somehow slack off this summer and not intern.
By the time Fall rolls around and real interviews with 8-hour superdays start, a solid internship sophomore summer internship + a ton of networking will prove to be more valuable than a two-day networking event at one bank.
Does anyone know how the mentor/mentee process works and how people get paired?
Last year, it was by alums from what I noticed.
.
I don't think they have sent out decisions for ethnically diverse candidates. The people on here who said decisions had been released were referring to the female program. The female program is a week before the ethnically diverse program.
So the ethnically diverse invites haven't gone out yet? Gasp
I cannot be sure. But I had my interview on the 20th, and my interviewer said the phone interviews were more of a screening than a phone interview. "Just to make sure you aren't crazy before we invite you". Lol I thought mine went really well, and the people on here who said invites were sent out seem to be referring to the female program on the 13th. Unless I am mistaken. I texted a friend who works there and will update this thread when I hear back.
/~~
Just heard back from my boy. HR is sending out decisions for the Ethnically Diverse Sophomore Springboard by the end of the day
Thank you Based God. If your contact is accurate, you've won this thread. Update us if you get an invitation!
Looks like I still got a chance for a couple more hours! Not expecting it though..
Yeah I didn't hear anything today either. Anyone have any good news?
Nope. Nothing. I'll give it another day before I give up :) There is still hope!
Any news?
Not for me
Just got the rejection letter lol. Bummer!
Didn't hear back either for ethnically diverse event, any chance they are just sending them tomorrow?
Just got my official rejection. Rejected from this and Morgan Stanley Early Insights so far. Still waiting on Goldman.
