Best finance gigs in Florida?

Me and my fiance met in high school. We both have family in Florida (Okeechobee area). We both want to live Florida, with a preference in the south east area (Palm Beach, Weston, Boca), as to be closer to family. If I were single, I probably would not care as much; the emphasis on being closer to family is really hers.

I looked up IB in Florida and really didn't find too many opportunities. I may be wrong, but it seems like Raymond James is the biggest IB in Florida.

Any ideas on what the best finance gigs are in Florida?

Are you currently in college? What is your background? My advice for a college student in your shoes would be to bite the bullet and go to the best IB job you can get for two years. Then you will have plenty of opportunities to move back and get into PE in SE FL after that. If you absolutely have to be in FL then go all out for RJ, as it is the best shop in that region.

I graduate this summer from a non-target (FSU). Zero finance experience. My only internship was an academic one in which I was a research intern. I'm receiving a dual degree: 1. B.S. Economics - minor in math - honors in the major 2. B.S. Political Science - minor in business - research intensive bachelor's certificate 3. magna cum laude - overall gpa: 3.8 - upperclassman gpa: 3.99 4. Garnet & Gold Scholar

I'm applying for any finance related job in the Orlando area. I plan on working the upcoming Fall and Spring semester and studying hard for the GMAT. The plan is to get my MSF from a top school (Vanderbilt is the goal), and intern part time while in the program.

H.I.G. is one of the biggest PE firms in Florida I believe, down in Miami.

If you are unwilling to leave florida you may find yourself in a tough position. However, if you are so inflexible, consider Raymond James IB, and HIG as they are the only decent shops in FL. Additionally, there are a few boutique PE and IBs scattered around the state, but positions are highly limited.

I too am a FL local, but plan to work in NY for a few years, then make the move back. I would love to build a career in FL, though I acknowledge the importance of cultivating a solid base and skill-set on Wallstreet.

Raymond James in Tampa is the only larger bank I can think of that is actually headquartered in FL. I'm sure there are many boutique shops down there too, as well as some regional offices of the larger banks (maybe some pub-fin offices and ops). Of course there are many different types of funds in FL as well, but those gigs are probably very difficult to get. PWM is probably your best bet if you want to be in a more front office type role... it's certainly not a bad place to be.

yeah i agree staying in florida ill be some what limited.... IBbankedout where about in florida are you?

and whats PWM? thanks!

I was born and raised in Tampa. Had the option to work for RJ, but felt they lacked ambition. Additionally, the exit opps ensuing the analyst stint would have been far more limited.

PWM Private Wealth Management

Most major (even minor) cities have PWM offices for larger banks. There should also be some boutique type AM places around so just do some digging.
