Best Technicals Resources?

Currently an incoming freshman at a target in Canada.

I’m seeking to spend some time studying IB technicals as I’ll have a substantial amount of free time during my upcoming summer break.

What are some good preferably low-cost technicals resources for someone like me?

I recruited for SA 26 this year in the US. I broke the technicals into five sections: Accounting, Comps + Precedent Transactions + Enterprise & Equity Value , DCF, Merger Model, LBO. This mirrors the chapters in the Rosenbaum & Pearl book (except they don't have an accounting chapter).

I would read the relevant chapter, then do all of the practice problems on the topic from the 400 Question, WSP Red Book, and 10X EBITDA core technical guide (this one was the best). You should be able to find all of those for free easily. I made a little Google Doc broken into sections with links to the chapter of the book and the pages in the guides about the topics. I think the combination of the book + lots of practice problems will make sure you get the theory behind the questions and allow you to be comfortable answering questions on the fly in interviews. I never got stumped on a question across multiple Super Days and first rounds.

Also try to make a behavioral guide with every conceivable question and some bullets for your response. I wouldn't write scripts for your responses because then you'll come off as stiff. You want there to be room for your personality and you want to come off natural.

Like you I started prepping over the summer, but it's not really necessary. I forgot most of it by the Fall and had to prep all over again. Definitely don't let IB technicals define your freshman summer. My last piece of advice would be to do mock interviews with upperclassmen over Zoom and in-person. Answering technicals live with someone watching you is completely different than doing them on your own in your room.

Hope this helps.

Here are the top resources I used when preparing for interviews. Hope this helps!

Breaking into wallstrethis one is a classic, great for starting out and learning materials. You can probably find it online for free

www.finmock.app This is a more niche tool I found, but GREAT for practicing, as it had 1500+ questions based on more than 70 firm's real interviews

chatgpt - I also asked a lot of my technical questions for ChatGPT to explain it!
