Bocconi AFM (former AFC) vs Bocconi Finance vs Bocconi IM CEMS
Hello guys, I am writing this post to gather feedback regarding the choice mentioned in the title. I'll give you a little bit of context:
- I am a Bocconi students in my second year enrolled in the BSc in Economics and Management
- My goal is to work in IB/PE/Corporate Finance either in Milan or abroad, but I wouldn't mind working in Wealth Management or Strategy Consulting in serious firms
- I am lucky enough to have a high GPA (above 29.5/30) and in the fall I'll study at Cornell University for a semester
- I completed one M&A summer internship in a no-name regional boutique in Milan and this summer I'll work in a small Search Fund as a PE intern
- I have some extracurriculars (2 finance associations, voluntary work, published a book)
I know that Finance is generally perceived as more prestigious, however, I am not interested in the quantitative finance, econometrics and S&T related courses it entails. Both for this reason and because I believe I would not perform very well in such courses, I am much more keen to choose AFM.
Choosing AFM, I would pursue the corporate finance major (hence studying all corporate finance and IB/PE courses taught in the MIF) and I would replace the quantitative/markets course in the MIF with international accounting, corporate governance and business law courses, which are more in line with my academic strengths and interests. As a result, I would realistically have a much higher GPA and I would find studying more fulfilling.
As for IM CEMS, I am considering it just for the overall prestige and international experience, as well as for keeping my options open in a turbulent job market affected by AI adoption.
In light of these, what master do you suggest? Would choosing AFM instead of MFIN hurt my chances of landing a job in PE/IB in Milan or abroad?
I am sorry for the length of the post. Thank you very much for your help.
do not apologise for the length of the post, it shows how dedicated you are towards your career,
Bocconi finance is their flagship program, its the most versatile, and can be bent either way, its a proven pipeline, ( not ultra target, but we do have a lot of people )
best for investment banking , and relevant trajectory
Bocconi IM is prestigious, but its a bit away from finance, makes you more of a management generalist
best for McKinsey style consulting
AFM is more technical, but not a dealbreaker
nothing is guaranteed , do your research !
I would pick either finance or IM
AFC is a good course but placement is worse compared to Finance. Placement in london for bocconi in general has fallen significantly due to visa, but if you want a shot one of the first 2 will be better
