Buyside Analyst -> IB Analyst Lateral?
Has anyone lateralled from a buy-side Analyst program (whether PE, HF, Growth - basically anything other than sourcing VC) into an IB Analyst role? I'm sure it's super uncommon since most people in banking are trying to move the opposite direction, but curious to see if this would even be possible?
Obviously you wouldn't see a Warburg Analyst move over to a BAML/Citi/Barclays or something lol, but would it make sense for a MM/LMM PE Analyst in a lesser-known, less structured program to move over to a top BB/EB? And would banks even be open to taking someone as a lateral if they aren't coming directly from a bank / haven't taken the Series exams? Curious to hear people's thoughts.
Feel like modeling competency is an important signal And would be a big thing they’ll look for because pe programs can be unstructured. But also unsure and curious about this in hearing stories so bump
