Changing industry specialization after analyst stint?

I havent posted here in a while lol. This may or not be a dumb question but here it goes...Lets say you're a second or even third year analyst at a nichey group or something. Is it potentially diffcult to move more towards a group like M&A/LevFin or an industry coverage group thats totally different? Im pretty sure no one wants to be pigeon-holed.

*This is all assuming you are working your way towards associate level. Thanks everyone!
