Concerned that CB start will set me back

Hi all,

I’m an An1 in a CB position that is technically CIB at a foreign balance sheet bank and I’ve come to realize that I’m really not learning anything that valuable. I wanted to do IB, but couldn’t find an offer that was worth it (boutique offer that had very low comp compared to my current role and virtually no deal flow). However, I’m starting to realize my role basically doesn’t do any modeling and it seems to be a job that many people retire in rather than start in (at least where I work) and I’m worried that it’s going to be very difficult to discuss my work if I try to lateral to IB since I basically will have zero deal experience and limited transferable skills that investment banking groups value (I don’t do any valuation). Any advice?

Are you exposed to any credit work or is it primarily relationship management?
