Depressed MF PE Analyst - Please Help
I’m currently an analyst 1 at a non-NYC MF PE firm. All of my close friends from college went to NYC and I have no family/friends in my current city. I’m super depressed and am maintaining zero non-work relationships outside of my parents. I barely keep in touch with my college friends anymore and I don’t know if those relationships will even last.
My life is essentially just work and sleep, does it ever get better?
Lateral to NYC
Don’t want to give any identifiable info in regards to the firm but I can’t / it isn’t possible
Thought Bain Cap had good culture
hey guys giveadvicepls here
you should jump up and down in joy every day knowing that you have achieved the incredible prestige of MFPE. nothing else matters. hope this helps 👍
real, i'd rather be depressed in a MF PE than happy in a audit firm lol
Thanks for adding MF analyst - very cool!
Most seniors seem to be friends with people in the industry or adjacent industries
What about jrs? Analyst class is very small and not at all close.
Just stick out your analyst years then do assoc or HF in NYC. You should get plenty of looks.
Your first few years will be tough anywhere, especially at a MF. Would recommend sticking it out for a little bit.
OP condolences on your tough situation...
That aside - does anyone love reading these threads or is it just me? It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out if you're subconsciously opening a statement about something as unrelated as feeling depressed with your position as a MFPE analyst that your life outside work is probably suffering because 99% of your waking thoughts are direct towards work, where you work, etc
Does someone need to create a 400 social interaction technicals guide for you drones? Text your old friends... get people on the phone... visit them with PTO... get out any chance you have... pick up a hobby you can do yourself.... good luck man
Common sense prevails.
One of my favorite sayings is that you have to treat each day like a lifetime. Only comes once, so you have to find joy in little daily things. As far as friends, kind of in a similar boat, all my college friends moved elsewhere. Idk what your hours look like, gonna assume they’re not great, but I personally joined a bunch of FB groups/apps that organize events for people trying to make friends. It’s worked surprisingly well, I went from having nothing to do in my down time to suddenly having too many things to do/people to do them with. More people than you’d think are in the same boat and would love to make new friends
Absolutely agree. We all need to find little things to appreciate about each day.
"Do not shorten the morning by getting up late, or waste it in unworthy occupations or in talk; look upon it as the quintessence of life, as to a certain extent sacred. Evening is like old age we are languid, talkative, silly. Each day is a little life: every waking and rising a little birth, every fresh morning a little youth, every going to rest and sleep a little death" - Schopenhauer
