gettin screwed

Am I hopelessly screwed?

I am a sophomore from what i thought might be a semi target near boston, and have tried since December to secure an internship for this summer. I am at the top of my class with a 3.8 gpa and a 4.0 major gpa with perfect SATs, and my school is probaby just as tough as most of the target schools. I even have prior experience in PWM and with a very small hedge fund.

I applied to around 25 places and was rejected everywhere:

mind you, I read through the M&I interview tips, and during a practice interview the interviewer said i had done perfectly.

I also was actually able to secure a decent amount of interviews, around 5-6

My education is no joke, im a quantitative economics major who takes chinese although i had no background with the language coming in

I'm guessing its either that no one gives a shit about my school or hiring is just really that bad- what do you older guys think?

I'm a junior at a target and just successfully went through the on-campus recruitment process, landing a gig at a pretty decent firm for the summer. Did a few last year, but most of the big boys are really looking for juniors who they can potentially lock up for post-graduation.

Doesn't seem like you're "screwed" at all; yes, maybe your school is not target, but you have a strong GPA with legit majors. PWM internship at your stage is helpful. With that being said, and not personally knowing you, companies also look at an applicant's likeability/social skills, and whether they'd like to be around you for a summer and possibly beyond, whether you'd be fun to grab a beer with, "shoot the shit with", etc.

Try again next year.

Sounds like Tufts.

You should reach out to your alumni base at the banks that you are targeting and begin to build relationships with them so that during your junior year, you will have interviews lined up at all the major banks. Moreover, you should continue to practice your interview skills -- you may be doing something that you do not realize is the problem.

You should have no problem obtaining a junior year SA position at a BB. Right now, reach out to the smaller boutique IBs/HFs/PEs around Boston and try to get a sophomore summer gig.

I actually made final round at BNP Paribas IBD in nyc, connected extremely well with one of the interviewers, and didnt get the position.

analystsforhire, i read M&I and know that the process is 90% do I like the person. I tried to come to each interview with an idea of how I would connect with the interviewer so they would remember me later on. I've basically reached out to all the alums in small boutiques but that hasnt turned up anything, mostly interviews or applications as I got rejected.

I have been thinking of doing the Tuck Business Bridge Program or going abroad to improve language skills, but I want to have something solid on my resume for work experience

I'm pretty familiar with one of the guys running the Bridge program and have a lot of friends who have done it. It's definitely helpful and will look good on your resume, but it's hardly necessary. There are plenty of other things you can do that will be just as good as having Tuck Bridge on your resume without spending $9500. You can do practically anything your sophomore summer and still be fine for junior recruiting so long as you keep your grades up and do some networking. Case in point, I know someone who trained dolphins last summer and got a good SA offer.
