Greatest Scams Running

I think there are some scams prospective monkeys should be aware of..

After a recent enlightening conversation with a few colleagues regarding shitty internship scams, I decided to post these scam artists..

Please do not waste your time with the following firms and stay away-

Aleutian Capital Partners Agile Equity Daroth Capital Advisors

Surprisingly, all these firms (predators?) "recruit" at NYU.

Please feel free to add to this list.

this is what i mean

Chris_Marlinwhat do you mean when you say they are scams??

...you cold call, do pointless shit and do not get paid for it (if you do, its meager pay)

ur better off getting experience elsewhere even if its in industry - i expected more from chris marlin

Don't mention Lynx Capital or you will get shit thrown at you.

Still not sure if I want to spend the next 30+ years grinding away in corporate finance and the WSO dream chase or look to have enough passive income to live simply and work minimally.

I interviewed there a long time ago for an internship when I was still in school. Seemed legitimate, now you have me curious haha. What's the story?

I can't really go into it on a public forum, but that place is ridiculous

How about Forex Signs FSI? I just got a phone call regarding their trader trainee program.

BS or legit?

I interned at ML for credit haha

Why is Daroth Capital a scam? It does seem that there is not much about them anywhere, except for their website. There are only two people listed on LinkedIn. I'm curious as to whether this is a legit place to work b/c I think they have a job posting?

from my discussions with a few colleagues, they waste your time with pointless interviews, make you jump through hoops, without any real expectation of hiring you, essentially your time and energy would be better spent pursuing other opportunities

and even if they do "hire" you, the "opportunity" (scam) is not worth it

its not just a special situation, its more of an epidemic.. people know there are young kids / bright eyed hopefuls interested in breaking into the industry and they love to take advantage

slave labor with no worthwhile skill set in the end, no cash flow (negative cash flow if they're not reimbursing your expenses), no branding, etc.

its the wall street equivalent of the young women that move to hollywood to become movie stars/dancers and become porn stars/strippers instead.. except porn stars/strippers make money and i would argue they have a skillset in the end

How do you know this? How did you get this information? Did either you or someone you know work there?

+1000

They had an online resume drop at my school even though it's more than 1000 miles from NYC. Just look at their website it's sketch as hell. Anyone ever interviewed/worked there?

alright bull... they're not a bernie madoff type of scam.. if you want to break into banking, anything finance related, this place is a waste of your time and energy.. please re-read the detail i provided earlier.

im just trying to warn prospective monkeys like you from predatory d-bags who will lure you into their offices with promises of internships, tie you up, and gang rape you for 8-10 weeks....

yes, they went to good schools and worked at the right banks.. so what, ted kaczynski went to harvard and milken got his MBA from Wharton

go on linkedin and see where their junior guys, if any, ended up. please reach out to them, meet them, interview with them, work for them and make a decision based from your experience and let WSO know

thank you.

----EDIT-----

this whole issue came up about a year ago when my firm did a resume drop at NYU Stern at the undergrad and MBA levels and I saw resumes of people who worked at these firms that I never heard of..

i inquired from colleagues who either studied at NYU, interned there, interviewed there, had any exposure to them in any capacity and they let me know of their complete shit-show status

"ThaVanBurenBoyz"
bullrunDoes that mean it is, in fact, a scam?
At a very high level, it can be considered the biggest Ponzi Scheme in history. New entrants into the system pay off the previous entrants; and there's no real link between what you paid into the system, and what you receive. This is a definition for both a Ponzi Scheme, and the U.S. Social Security program.

Originally, when Social Security started the number was ~35 paid in for every one person who was paid out; now it's closer to 8 people paying in for every one person paid out.

Are you referring to Daroth Capital as the scam?

ThaVanBurenBoyzDo tell more CreativeBanker. I feel bad for the Domer they hired as an Analyst. Lateral out of there ASAP!

Paying 100k+ for a "top tier target or ivy" college. Sorry to tell ya, many people from far cheaper state schools get into IBD BB just fine.

HPM^Easily the most Sketchy site I have ever seen

I agree that is also the sketchiest website I've ever seen, however, Creflo Dollar easily has the biggest scam going in the SE US...

The last 2 minutes or so reminded me of an Obama rally, lol. No more bills?! LOL.

Data mining companies like "Insight Global". They collect thousands of resumes through databases, their graduate employees on 100% commission jobs call you up with with a random job profile, ask for references in a very detailed table and, once they have that data, another company upsells hiring services and all kinds of other things to the hiring managers.
