Any info on the salaries as an associate and bonus? I can find out a few other salaries (IB, RA etc) but middle-office has been rather difficutl to find. You in GS?

I wasn't too sure about that but thanks for the info. I have a possibility with GS in a middle-office position on the buyside valuing deals, HF holdings and derivatives so this will be helpful, thanks.

Middle-Office acts as a go-between the front- and back-offices, in other words: Risk Management, Valuation and the validation of financial models, as well as other quantitative aspects including buy-side and sell-side.

It also depends on the bank, as all jobs may differ either slightly or quite a bit from bank to bank, whereas one may include compliance as Middle-Office or in another section entirely separate from the rest. It may also be combined with IT, or not.

Im still confused. As far as i am concerned you start as an analyst move to associate, vp etc. etc. When does this whole middle-office deal come into play?

I got this from Wikipedia and it is a bit general: "The middle office is the group of employees in a financial services company that manages risk, calculates profits and losses, and (generally) is in charge of information technology. The middle office draws on the resources of both the front office (sales personnel and corporate finance) and the back office (administration and support)."

That is what I understand it to be...if it isn't that then I haven't a damn clue what it is...sorry bj4224.

...middle office are the people who calculate traders p/l (profit or loss), book trades, keep positions, check trades with counterparties, etc. They also handle things like cash payments for derivatives and trade settlementds. I am not sure if their even are middle office people in banking, it is mostly a buy or sell side trading thing. Starting salaries 45-70k, but limited bonus. the appeal is the ability to eventually move into a trading role...the move is somewhat rare these days, but it sometimes occurs and it used to be the normal progression into trading.
